Might be a dupe, but I got this website in an e-mail from one of my buddies. www.armedamerica.org |
| You ever notice that most gun owners feel they somehow need to justify their reason for owning a firearm. Just reading through that I saw what many times I have done myself- justify my right of ownership. Many of the pictures were followed with, my dad was a cop or I served in the military etc with few exceptions. I notice myself doing this whenever talking with people I don't know very well about the firearms I own, saying, well I am former military, or I grew up shooting and it is a part of who I am. Worse is try dating these days, telling a girl for the first time you are gun owner is like saying you have some kind of terminal illness or something. |
+1 on the justification part ![]() + 1,000,000 on the girl part

Not trying to imply anything by this... but I was surprised by some of the people in some of the pictures. Def not what I would of when thinking about a typical 'gun owner'. I guess that just shows how even as gun owners we can be stereotypical.
Great point Creeper |
Ha! My girlfriend said to me the other day, "So, when are we shooting the AK again? I want to learn her top to bottom in case anything ever happens." That's just fantastic. Hmm..."top to bottom". I guess we'll start at the muzzle brake (graciously provided by Bachelor_of_Science) and work our way to the cleaning kit. Thanks for the post Bachelor_of_Science! |

I probably don't look like what most people would assume a Moderator here would look like, but I certainly don't feel the need to justify ownin my aresenal. I simply ask people why they need a car that does more than 70MPH, or why they live in a house rather than a studio apartment, because they can, same here. I also normally mention that it is my duty to be able to defend my family and neighborhood in bad times. |

Those are pretty cool pictures. It's great publicity for gun owners. Telling a girl I'm a gun owner isn't all that bad of a thing for me. They usually ask why, of course. I just simply say because it's a hobby of mine and it's fun. Try taking a girl to the range on the first date, it's definately something different than dinner and a movie. She'll probably tell her friends and it will be a good experience since most people have never shot a gun before. Just don't be weird about it and the girl wont be either. I took a friend of mine to the range yesterday who happens to be a girl, at first she was freaked out by my AR but once she started shooting, she really liked it. We were shooting at 100yd's and not only was she hitting paper consistantly but alot of them were right in the middle of the target. |
I've never had any trouble with it. Then again, I let them get to know me first, and then let them figure it out. I act like it is no big deal. You see, when you tell someone right off the bat that you are a gunowner, well there is a stigma. Most people can't get past the stigma. When they know you as a normal, funny, intelligent person, and then they find out you are a big time gun rights activist, well, it forces them to change their perceptions of what a gun owner is. |

i would not consider most of those people as "normal". Looks like alot of them are into history. And reading books. Where are their brand new plasma T.V.s? They all have to go on the "List". And those tattoos, oh my! Must be subversives. Half of those people evn look like they are married! Committed relationships, tisk tisk, bet it even happened in a church too. Bunch of Jesus freaks , the whole lot of 'em. They prolly even vote ( not american idol) to protect their rights, we need to get rid of them. |
