I see alot of people saying to "make sure it's not canted". What does this mean. How can I check for this if I'm ordering from one of the large sites? |
Thanks for the answers. I haven't decided what model to get, I thought I had but realized I should learn more about them. I don't know if I want milled or stamped, 7.62 or 5.56? I'm thinking 7.62 I do know that I want to buy a model with a solid stock, in wood. That way I can put a side folder on it later if I want. I was looking at the SSR85 C2 with the thicker 1.6mm receiver but started wondering if it wieghed as much as a milled receiver should I just get a milled receiver? I think I think to much. |
I have been looking at the Arsenal AK's, milled receivers. The wieghts seem to range around 3.27 to 3.7 kg. I really liked the SA-M7 Carbine, 3.27 kg. A guy's opinion in another forum was that if it was for collecting he would go with the milled receiver but if he had to lug it around all day or for an extended period of time then he would go with a stamped version for weight reasons. I'm pretty sure I won't have to carry this gun for any extended period of time but who knows. I haven't been able to find the weights of the stamped receivers to compare the difference. Is there that much of a weight difference? |
Definitely. The milled ones feel considerably heavier. Some of the stamped AK's I've handled are heavier though, like the Yugo. There are more issues than just weight anyway, like potential accuracy and possible resale value, plus looks (to a certain degree). If you've got the extra cash to spend, I'd get the milled one. If you go to a gun show and see the Global Trades banner, look very closely at the AK's they are selling before buying one. I got one this last weekend only to be told by a member of this board that Armory USA didn't actually build it. Here's the details. |
