I just got my sling and mag pouch in that I ordered from centerfire and they both have that lovely musty "military surplus" smell to them.   I'm sure everybody knows the smell.  How the hell can I get rid of this??  I was thinking of letting it soak in the sink with water and fabric refresher?  Any other ideas?

Take mag complete apart. Wipe down insided of mag, spring, follower, and floor plate with rag. Then spray with G96 gun oil (or your lube of choice) and reassemble.

Your idea for the sling sounds fine. I did the same with dish detergent in the sink overnight.

I bet you could throw it in the top rack of dishwasher if you have one or in the washing machine.

I wouldn't use the lube on your mag pouch dude. A magazine? sure...

But not your mag pouch...

do a washing load of old rags and cloths, when you dry the old rags throw the sling and pouch in the drier with a couple fabric softener sheets, they will come out smelling real nice.

Soak it in vinegar, then machine wash.  Don't use harsh detergents because it will bleach out the color.

I had a bunch of clothes that were stored in a old travel trailer.  What worked best to get rid of the smell was pouring a cup of febreeze in the washing machine.

I like them.  They seem to have fair prices.  I would like to get a couple kits from them but funds are not feasable for that right now.

In true ARFCOM fashion, I'm gonna DO BOTH, or ALL.  Sling is currently soaking in vinegar/water solution.  Then I'm going to wash in the washer with fabric refresher & detergeant, then I'm gonna dry it in the dryer with some bounce sheets.  If that doesn't do, then I don't know what the heck will.  Thanks for the suggestions guys.
