What is the finish like on the current Vector underfolders? How does it compare to a Vepr or an Arsenal finish?

Id say that the Vector UF finish is pretty strong.  Not as durable and smooth as the arsenals though but it is still durable.  Arsenals have a paint finish on it that some ppl dont like because it wears off.  i have not had a problem with my sam7 though.  If my memory serves correctly the finish on the vectors is what the finish is on the arsenals before they bake the paint on.

Heres a comparison:

The american made Arsenals (such as your SAM7) don't have the crappy paint finish, only the rifles being imported from Bulgaria. The finish on my SLR-105 A1 is a total joke, comes right off with Hoppes; I will be getting it refinished soon. The finish is the only bad part though.......

It's a rough gray powder-like finish.  However, the finish is not like the sandpaper grit finish on one of my E German steel mags.  It feels a lot like the NHMTG S/42 Hartford CT AR mags, but doesn't scratch as easily.  It's not slick or dark like I see on WASR's either.  I'm not an AK guru, so that's the only way I know how to describe it (by comparing it to things I know and hope you know).  It's no way near as slick as the Vepr finish.

My Vector underfolder appears to be parkerized.  That or a damn good immitation.  Great little gun!

ETA: Mine's a little over a year old. No idea if they've changed the finish.

ETA2: I have replaced the ugly pistol grip with a black one since this pic was taken...

That picture seems deceiving, because mine isn't as gray.  It may be the flash.

The red one you had was mighty ugly.  The newer ones come with either all black furniture, wood handguards that match as closely as possible with either brown or black grips.

It doesn't look nearly so gray in person.  I do think it's park'ed though.
