Never pointed an AK at anything other then paper BUT I have had pointed my AR-15 and some bank robbers a few times. It was just about dark out and I lit him up with the light on the rifle. His eyes were the size of pie plates when he saw what I was pointing at him. The funny thing was that he did exactly what I told him to do. His two friends in the car did the same thing. Glad I did not have to shoot the moron. Would have splattered his melon all over the inside of the car ( and his buddys).

well i havent, but the wharehouse across the street got robbed last year in the middle of the night. bad thing for the robber that there was an employee who lived on property and confronted the perp who pulled a 22 on him then the employee blew his left knee out with an ak. the perp actually managed to limp away while the employee was calling the po po. they picked the perp up later at a local hospital with his knee all screwed up.

I don't know if it was brave or stupid. I am a LEO in Florida. When I was in the detective bureau we had a rash of Bank Robberies and were watching the group for a couple of days. They went to check out a bank and the lead FBI agent decided to take them down when they were all together in their vehicle. They are currently serving very long sentences in a federal prison. Yea for the good guys.

Good for the wharehouse employee!

TIANS.....
A local wannaba 7/11 Korean owned strore in the SanFernando Valley"Northern L.A." used an AK...This was in the early 80's..
Two paco's stop by and one shows a pistol and then pistol whips the guy behind the counter after getting the cash...
Well...This time there is a guy in the back room watching on a CCTV and see's what's going on and comes out and nails one "3 times"and the other takes off ,dives for the car and then he gets lit up ...
He lived..Crash injuries and bullet holes
LAPD filled no charges since this was a 3 robbery in a month and ruled justified.
Only reason I know is because I stopped by as the investigation was ending and they were closing for the night and talked to one of the clerks"Owner" as the other guy"Shooter" was given his AK back....
This is a no shit story....
An amazine thing has happened...They don't get robbed anymore
These days it is 2 guys on and both armed with a handgun since AK's are now evil...

I just KNEW that there were going to be some funny as shit stories out there. Being in Atlanta we got a lot of the refugees from Katrina and some funny stories came out of there, who know how true they are or not, but all seem quite plausible. The funniest one that I heard was a Korean family (detecting a pattern here!) who owned a liquor store holed up in their store with one of them on the roof with an AK...small group of dumbshits decides to start wondering over to the place looking like they're up to no good. Guy on the roof lets loose with a volley right into the water in front of them....wisely the little group of banditos decides to go elsewhere to look for trouble!

IIRC, it was a Korean shop keeper. Never touched his store!

Years ago, when I was a senior in high school some of my friends came running up to my door. They were in a panic and told be there was a gang of kids after them. I looked out the door and saw about 5-6 carloads of teens slowly crusing around the block and stopping infront of my house (no parents home). So, I ran to my room and grabbed my SKS with folding stock and stepped out in the driveway. The lead car had a kid hanging out the window, he took one look at the SKS and said "oh shit" then the car sped off and the others followed suit. Problem solved . Looking back, it wasnt the smartest way to deal with the situation, but luckaly nothing else came of it.

knifehitter,

A very similar thing happened to my dad. Dad and Grandpa were coming home from San Francisco. Grandpa changed lanes on the Bay Bridge and nearly hit a motorcyclist who was passing between cars. Due to the traffic around him it was practically impossible to see the motorcycle driver.

Anyway, the motorcyclist gets all offended and follows Grandpa for the next half hour as they're driving home. Dad says, "Swing by my house. Park the car in the driveway but leave it running and stay inside."

Sure enough, the motorcyclist follows them all the way to the house. Dad gets out of the car and walks inside, grabs his M1 Carbine, inserts loaded magazine, walks back out to the porch, and sits down with the carbine accross his lap. The motorcyclist looked at Dad for a few seconds before wisely deciding that he'd bitten off more than he could chew and took off.

The only living material I've ever aimed mine at were some wild dogs that were tearing up our neighbor's dairy cattle. Not much of a story really. They paid me $100 for a day of standing on my back deck and executing the things. They had no problem jumping fences. They would run up in packs and tear at the legs of the cattle or just take down a baby calf here and there by the face. All in all, nine dogs.

I had a home invader trying to break my door down and I had an SKS and informed him that if he came in he would go out in a body bag. He decided to leave. When I called the Apt manager so she could get the security gaurd out there (that was in the lease agreement) she informed me they had not had one for two weeks. She did not even want to call the Cops but she did and if she did not I would have. Moving out of there was a great day. Now he would get the ugly end of a Rem 870 tactical with 00 or an AK since my AR is just for looks LOLOL.

No. I've fired Gau-5's, AR-15, M-16A1/A2, M-4, M-92, M-1911, and MP-5 when it counted........other than "Fun" shooting, my "AK" experience was on the "receiving" end.........
Link Posted: 3/9/2006 2:00:12 PM EDT
When I was in Baghdad last year I "acquired" an underfolder. I usually carred an M16A2, but I often had the AK around--either in my vehicle or over my back. AKs were a dime a dozen there, so I picked the best of what I had to choose from. I spent time cleaning it up, then sighting it in. My impressions are these:

1. In full auto, it is not effective. You can keep the first round on the target, and mabey the second, but forget about it after that. That said, the one I had had a slant break. Maybe a US-type break (like BM sells) would work better. Keep in mind, this was not range type shooting. This was crouching, lying, from behind cover, and sometimes while moving. On the range there, I could keep more than two rounds on target.

2. The AK cannot come close to the M16A2 in accuracy. I was able to hit things twice as far away (literally) with my A2, than I could with that AK. Now, if I had "accurized" the AK, accuracy could have been somewhat better. Also, I have more muscle-memory invested in the M16 platform, so I am programmed to shoot better with that weapon.

3. The AR cannot come close to the AK in durability/reliability. After the initial cleaning, I did no further mainenance on the AK. I put about 500+ rounds though it, with absolutely no issues. My A2 however, I had to keep covered up (mag well/flashhider) when not outside the wire, and even then I had to clean it regularly--it still jammed. Unless you've been to the desert, you cannot comprehend just how fine the sand/dust is there. In CONUS however, with our "clean air" the AR would not perform as badly.

4. When you are in the real deal, and other men are actually shooting AT YOU, the cool factor of a weapon does not mean a damn thing. The better performing, and mroe accurate weapon is the one you want, not the cool looking one. That could be an AK, AR, or even a subgun, depending on where you are and what you are trying to do. But if it is an AK, it is probably NOT an underfolder.

The AK I would own here--and I would definitely recommend them--would be a well made one, with full stock, in semi, with an AK-type break. I would use a ghost-ring-type rear sight, and get other add-ons, such as a better trigger, a better mag release, a better selector lever, and a better sling. I would not use an optic.

No for me(at least Not Yet)........................In the 1990s in Pleasant Grooves(south-east Dallas County)...4 crooks got whacked by a man with an AK. Three were stealing the man's fancy rims from his car, they were nailed right there. The fourth guy died in the get-away vehicle(there might have been a 5th guy, that got away). Initial Police reaction was to arrest the man with the AK. They claimed he used a silent alarm system and way too much Fire Power, because he fired about 28-29 rounds. Later the Grand Jury no-billed the man. I saved alot of newspaper clippings about this story; but can't find any right now...

i absolutely despise anyone who has no respect for anothers' property. thieves are the scum of the earth. actually..if earth could take a shit, thieves would be the poop!

anyway i know this doesnt count but that story reminds me of an article i read in the local newspaper covering an area south of seattle made up of a lot of smaller cities..a man's dog or dogs were going nuts inside the house so the owner (275 pounder) went outside to make sure everything was groovy, he walked onto the driveway to find one lone black gangsta' who had apparently just got the driver door open. I guess the theif had nothing to protect himself with, not sure, but the owner simply walked over to the theif, scared the shit out of him, scuffled for a second, wrapped his hands around his neck and choked him to death. I believe he went to jail but was released without charge.

i can't imagine what the owner would have done if he had an AK.

I sorta did. Its a really long story but the cliffs notes involve a rabid dog running loose in our rural community, bit the finger off this one guy I know. Police from a bunch of local towns are all over our and adjecent farms.

I see the dog while Im eating dinner, grab my WASR10 (only centerfire I had at the time) and got off 5 shots at it but never hit it. Target was over 300yds away and I was standing shooting at a running dog so I dont feel bad about missing. Not to exciting...but its the only time Ive ever fired a rifle at a living thing I wasnt hunting.

There was story on the General Discussion a few months back bout a guy who was used it in defense during a home invasion. He heard them pulled his AK w/30rd mag from under the bed and shot.. He killed 3 young thugs and the other lost a lung and a few other parts.

He unloaded 30rd magazine basically donated to them 7-8 rds per person.

The surviving heavy breathing thug is in prison and screwed for life over a a few hundred dollars they would have gotten from stolen merchandise.

Teach your kids to stay away from someones house if they dont belong there!

When I was a 19 year old hot head, my brother (at the time about 21)paged me. I called him back and he asked if he could use my ak, as he had a run in with some guys and they were gonna meet at a local park to fight, well I guess things got out of hand and it all turned into like a 20 0n 20 fight and the other guys were gonna bring guns. I said yeah and I would meet him there. I met them at the park and he had my ak, I stood behind one of the cars with it in the trunk, barely opened. 4 cars pulled up and they were loaded down. All the guys got out and one of them flashed what looked to be a 22 or 380. ABout this time I came around the car wielding an underfolder with a 75 round drum and said "Someone got a problem!?!?!?" Needless to say they scattered and left thier cars where they were. I know it was stupid and I wouldnt do it now......But the looks on those guys faces were priceless. And I swear I smelled poop! One time about 3 in the morning I heard someone at my front door. Snatched the AK up and went to investigate. The door opened, my brother had unlocked the door and went to get something out of the car, One of his friends sticks his head in the door to the barrell of an ak. And said "HOLY SHIT ROCK" thats my brothers nickname. When I realized who it was I immediately dropped muzzle, But he said it did scare the hell out of him!

I had to "escort" a roommate's drunk friend out of the house with my 47 underfolder. The sound of an AK cocking is probably similarly terrifying to someone working the slide action of a pump shotgun, and he left without any further problems. He proceeded to walk down the street and pick a fight with a whole household of drunks around the corner and got beaten mercilessly.

I'm a renter, so my gun is not really for home defense, it's more for sport, entertainment, and shit hits the fan scenarios. I'm not sure what the legality of shooting someone in a rented house here in Wisconsin is, but I would not pull the trigger unless someone was actually breaking into my bedroom.

Besides, the AK47 seems like a very unsafe gun to use in a house occupied by people other than the assailant.
Link Posted: 3/11/2006 7:25:03 AM EDT
Once , a crazed german shepard dog attacked my father-in-law at the diner in town after a man had thrown a chunk of liver outside the seating area. My f-i-l had gotten to close I suppose. Anyhow , I retrieved the weapon from my truck and had the dog dispatched with one round. The police came a runnin up and had recieved a report that a crazed man had cleared the diner with an automatic. They knew me and concluded that the dog was indeed the only victim. However , the dogs owner was upset. I informed him that even though I like dogs , I do not like mad dogs , especially when they look at me next.

Nope. No tolerance for crazed and violent dogs...or humans.

You are correct.. I'm glad I live in Texas!

I heard something about during a time of diaster, hurricane, floods, etc.. You can use deadly force to protect your house and your neighbors houses, day or night.. I think its some kind of militia type law.. That's just what I hear on CNN, but someone needs to look this up in a law book..

Isn't all this covered under Tresspassing Laws?
I always knew that Texas gave lots of leg room to property owners when dealing with tresspassers.

Wouldn't wanna tresspass in Texas!!!

Now I have had plenty of close encounters with predators up here, especially Black Bear. Today, I get out on remote walking trail and my dog runs down a hill to a creek to get some water. At least that's what I think. All of a sudden it is very quiet and then some ruckus( more than one animal). I can't see anything but then I hear a lot of scraping. I look at the direction it is coming from and there are 2 bear cubs climbing a tree. About a second later all Hell breaks loose. And the racket is moving up hill towards me, fast. Aw shit, I am thinking as I clack the selector and bring my rifle up. They are both now visible coming up the hill right at the trail about 15m ahead of me. The Sow is about 6ft behind my dog who hits the trail and turns right for me. By now the Sow has turned and is coming right at me, only a foot or two behind my dog and swiping at her as she runs, snarling and snapping. Fucking thing is really pissed. Dog is right in front and is about 1/3 the height of the bear. 10m. Dog is a little on the left side of the bear and my first shot is just over her and into the right low chest. The sow drops about an inch and is recovering her stride as I am squeezing for the second shot and my dog crosses in front turning right to get around a bush. Bang! Second shot left upper chest as the bear is turning, with the angle of shot right at the vitals. Now turning more, she is almost turned in the front half and my 3rd shot is right behind the shoulder, again into the vitals. First 3 shots in under 1 second. Sow rolls onto her back, thrashes and then rolls forward onto her haunches, extends her neck out and takes one last roar. Bang, bang. Double tap to the neck. One in the vessels, second up into the C-spine.

If I had been unarmed I'd be digesting right now, no question at all in my mind. That bear was pissed and wasn't stopping for shit. I don't think even a handgun would have been sufficient at all. At the least my dog would be dead and I'd have been badly wounded.

Training paid off big time though. No panic, no hesitation, stayed cool. When it was obvious it was kill or be killed I did the job in fine fashion. Pissed at my dog though. The Sow only did what she had to from her perspective and I felt sick to my stomach with each squeeze of the trigger. Damn shame to kill something for nothing.

But we both survived

Darn! There's a no win situation. Kill a wild (and extremely angry and dangerous) animal that's only doing what nature programed it to do, or allow yourself to be brutally killed. You picked the better of the two lousy choices.

As posted, this is correct. There is something called 'criminal mischief at night'. Its a big NO NO and you are basically begging to be shot if you "F" with anyones shit after dark. Thieves beware when the sun goes down and don't be afraid of the night. Be afraid of what hunts at night.

Yeah, everytime I think of it there is a mixture of elation at having kicked ass and survived, as well as incredible remorse at having to kill such an awesome creature. I always feel bad when I make a kill during hunting also. Always have. Enjoy the hunt though as it makes me part of the circle of life in away I could never otherwise realize.

One thing I will tell you is that it was incredible how fast it was. My dog is really fast, runs 20-30miles a day when I hunt and it was closing on her pretty damn well. I figure I had a little over 1/2 second. I must have gone into adrenalin driven slow motion mode because I put 3 very accurate rds in her in the space of about 1 1/2 strides from what I can figure based on my memory of it.

Interesting also that when my rifle came up on it I was right on target. Perfect. So perfect that I did an instantaneous in-out focus to make sure. Didn't want to shoot my dog. I had enough close encounters that I figured it might happen one day and had considered the possibilities and how I would handle it mentally. A little muscle-memory type thing in action aided by all the training and shooting I do. There wasn't much time to think about it though I will tell you there was quite a bit of brain activity going on in a very short time period.
I also have replaced the original leaf sight with an adjustable ghost ring site which definitely aided rapid target aquisition. Just an FYI.

My dog and I hunt and hike a lot. She and I have spent an incredible amount of time together and I swear she can read my mind sometimes. She seemed to know exactly what I was trying to accomplish and when I rode the recoil up going into the left upper chest for the second shot, she cut right across, getting out of the way.

After this I left the area quickly, got back to my vehicle and drove out. A Bald Eagle swooped down in front, over my hood, and rode the airwave off of it, seemingly hovering just over the hood of my Blazer. It did that for a couple of hundred yards, just in front of my windshield a few feet. As it glided out in front of me it would look back at me every couple of seconds. I thought a lot about what that meant. What an experience.

Magnificent creature.

I shot one living thing with my AK. I was eating lunch at home at noon and saw a possum run accross the back yard to the bird feeder. Went downstairs to the safe, grabbed the underfolder AK, and loaded up 10 rounds. Opened the back door and shot it 6 times. It ran into some bushes. It was still alive there and I then put a round in the back of its head. Possums are hard to kill. Yeah not exciting but I delt with a pest with my AK like the rest of the stories

Somewhere around here there are pics of the rifle and the bear's skull. I don't have access to the photo server anymore though. Magnificent creature.

It was pretty lackluster actually. We were in the process of moving into our new building and I looked down the alley and saw some guy on the other side of the dumpster looking back and forth like he was looking out for something. Then I saw him walk across the alley around the side of the row of buildings in the intersecting alley where I lost sight. I sneaked around the back of the buildings in the shadows and observed two men in their late 20s early 30s attempting to break into a car parked in the adjacent parking lot. I was about 100 feet from my back gate, where I had propped up a couple of guns I was moving into the building -- one of the SAR-1s being one of the guns. It was the only gun that had any closely accessible ammo. I popped in a mag and grabbed my Nextel out of my coat and pulled up the pager of our PD's detective, who I am friends with.

I went back around the corner and sort of hid the rifle behind me and yelled, "I sure hope that car is yours."

One of the guys replied... "It is... I locked my keys in it." Then he looks up a little surprised to see the weapon and looks at me and addresses me by name. Come to find out, he's my neighbor and he's friends with one of my good friends who had been doing work in our building.

Nice way to meet the neighbors.

We had a good laugh about it and I apologized for running around the neighborhood with a loaded SAR-1. He was cool with it because he knew I was looking out for everyone's cars.

My SKS saved my life. Gang of guys tried to come into my appartment and finish a fight. My roommate told them I was up in my room with a "rifle with a long clip and a bayonet". Glad they were smart and went home.....but I would have killed each one of them if they entered.
