Is this a trick question, or can you find 10-round 5.45 mags for those of us stationed in unfriendly states?

there are 10 round 5.45 mags out there, they are the steel ones..... cost like $8-10 normally...put up a WTB post in the EE......

OR have someone take a Bakelite AK74 mag and convert it to be a low 10 round cap mag...  hell I could do that with my Bulgarian AK74 mags if I tried im sure...

umm what rifle would you be using the mag in anyhow?

They came with SAR-2s, and they were cut down steel 30 rounders.

The only place to get them is places like the EE. I'd try a WTB thread. I got one by posting a WTB on gunsnet, but it took a while.

I think I've got one laying around, you can have it if you want it.

Let me know.  I'll see if I can find it.

+1 on keeping an eye on the EE.  That's where I found the two I have.
The 10rnd mags are a bit short & a PITA to change, unlike the regular 30rnd mags.  Not enuff to get a good grip on.  The only reason I bought them is for bench shooting & to be able to keep a mag in the rifle when it's in it's case (M60 barrel bag+folding stock AK=).
Whenever I get around to it I'll cut down & epoxy a Bulgy poly mag to ~20rnd size.  A steel mag would be easier to shorten (cut to length, bend out tabs & reinstall floorplate) but I'm not going to cut up a $$$ Polish Tantal mag when used Bulgarian poly mags are so cheap.

I had a friend make a 20 rounder out of a bulgarian mag.  I'll post a pic of it tonight.

Single or double stack?  Same for the 5 rounders.  I have bought the single stack mags to see if they work and they do not.  5.45 Rifles set up for single stack have a different feed ramp.  I am working on converting a chinese 5.56 mag, gettig close, but not there yet.  Here is a link on how to convet a Bulgarian to 5 round.  [Have yet to try it myself, but plan to.]  http://www.gunco.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2721  It is in a pdf format so be prepared

Not to rub it in, but I have five 10 round 5.45 mags that I use at the range.  Go to the Equipment Exchange and post in the "AK WTB" forum.  That's how I got mine.  They do exist.  Mine are Romanian and shipped with SAR-2's.

I've got 2, also came from SAR-2's. I got one from a friend and another from another AK forum that I no longer visit.

They are definitely out there.

OK, I've posted my wishes for double stack 5 or 10 round mags in the AK WTB section.  Lets see what's out there.  And yes, I do want and need them.

Rock on, thanks for the replies.  Backblast, I'd take you up on that but it sounds like you could make a few bucks on the EE.  Looking for any AK parts in trade?

I'm stationed in CA and had to register my AWs when I got sent here, but there's no provision to bring in standard capacity magazines.  So, I've got 10-round AR and 7.62 mags, but no 5.45 mags.  Consequently I haven't shot Osama (my 5.45 Krink) or my new-before-getting-sentenced-to-CA Bulgy -74.  Each time I've been out shooting here I get someone who comes over and asks a few questions about my AWs, and I'm sure one day it will be the sherriff since they swing by the area frequently where we shoot in the desert.  As such, I'm keeping legal all the way around w/a copy of my Military AW Permit (MAWP) and 10-round mags.  Probably a non-issue to an LEO if I've got a registered weapon, but it's not worth it during my sentence assignment here to even come close to having an issue.

On a related but separate note, I can't wait to get out of this effin' state.

Should have been more specific... yes, the 10 round Rom mags used to exist... I have several :)  But like the TRex?  They seem to have vanished from the earth :)

Well, unfortunately the AW Ban in CA hasn't gone the way of the T-Rex either.

Did I mention I can't wait to get back to a free state?  Coming here from Utah was... tough.

I'm surprised no one weighed in on the Yeti.
