Ok I want one AK for the collection . Just one . I don't want to go crazy on the cash , but I don't want a POS . Lets say between $500-700. What would you buy and why? |

www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=218 Atlantic also gives AR15.com members a discount, so mention that. |
If your going to have just one.... Get yourself an Arsenal Milled AK. Sam 7 or even a SLR101S $500 . The very best AK I own. I have some that cost more but don't hold water to the MILLED Arsenal. Nuff said, Move out puke, WarDawg

| The problem is, not only is there no single "best" AK, there is also no single representative model. There are enough significant, and appealable differences between milled, stamped, European, Chinese, standard stock, underfolding, sidefolding, 7.62mm, 5.45mm, mil-clone and customized that you may start with one, but you will not stop with one. I was at a friend's house and he probably had 15 already and another 5 to build. Now I don't feel the need for that much variety, nor do I have my own platoon requiring equipment, but I'm at 4 and that may, I say again, may be enough. We'll see. |
Depends on what kind of collection it is. If its a collection of guns from around the world. I would not suggest a VEPR. Because "They are not a traditional looking AK" I would go with something wood all the way around Like a vector classic. If you are looking for a gun just to say I have an An AR-15, an UZI, An AK-47......... Then go with the VEPR K in 7.62, Highest quality for the money, or look up a converted MAK 90 on the EE. You need to decide if you want looks or quality.![]() Oh yeah Arsenals are OK too |

For $500, you could buy a Romanian AIM parts set, a receiver, a 12 ton press, and all the jigs and tooling you would need to build it up. When you're done, you'll have a Kalashnikov, all the tooling and knowledge, and maybe some $ left over for ammo. And maybe you'll want to build another, and another ... |

Best off the rack, normally available AKs here are SAM7 and VEPR K. Both weigh about the same, and a bit heavy which helps smooth out the shots nicely since you are not marching it. SAM's bulk comes from milled rec mainly, VEPR's bbl is a full .8" under the handguards due to it's RPK heritage. |
