I am in the market for one with a barrel nut. Can anyone point me in the right direction? There are a couple on gunbroker, but I would like to stay in our ak47.net family and give someone from here my money

...in my safe! OH!...you meant one for sale! no, sorry, just keep your eyes peeled. IN all honesty you can probably do better price wise off the boards. Just keep an eye peeled at gunshows, or from friends. I had a buddy that just bought one with the Y marking for $250..FTF !

Having sold my long barreled one (after repairing the canted sight and correcting the trigger slap), the 2 I have left, an MISR (must use US parts mags) and a thumbhole version (with LH tacked muzzle nut), which took a fortune to get it compliant, I think I should have just gotten one of the current crop of Romanians with all the fun features already on it.
Maadis are crude, painted, scrap wooden stocked over priced (currently) examples of the breed, IMO Not trying to talk you out of it, I love mine...but what a project! 2 of mine were $199, the MISR was $300 & change with the muzzle turned down.  |

I totally disagree, Some of the MISR's may have been that way but the Steyr bbl'd early imports and the RML's from PARS are generally quite fine examples of a Russian AK built on Russian tooling by Egyptian tradesmen trained by Russians in Cairo. I have many thousand rounds through mine without one single hicup. Yes Maadis are painted, however that paint is over top of a phosphated finish. Not bad, beats the coolies out of a blued type finish. |

True, HUNGARYMAN, even the homely ones seem to never skip a beat!
Huey_crew_chief merely wanted one with a tacked barrel nut ?, which are mostly the "crude" ones. Recent Maadis can be a study in how to make plywood stocks with assorted brass pins or how using a hammer and a hand grinder can be used for a final finish. I'm not sure but I would guess the "earlier" ones lacked those features, along with the dreaded canted sight. The included factory certificate with all mine does little to assure much confidence as does actual trigger time. I wouldn't mind a nice low milage early one myself, subject to a premium price and availability, of course.  But not just for the barrel nut. |

I can't see the complaint on the Maadi, but I didn't buy mine for its looks either. It cleaned up well, both inside and out.

Yep.....Bobby's Pawn Shop in Gastonia, NC has one I saw the other day. Was around $349 I think. Had been used, was a little scratched up but very useful. I started to get it but I already got one.
