I broke the bore brush in my sks that originally came with my wasr.. I havent been able to find a replacement of just a bore brush without buying some kind of elaborate cleaning kit that comes in a briefcase.  Anyone know where I can find just a bore brush for a couple bucks?  The guy at gander mountain said a 30 caliber rifle brush would fit.  God was he wrong.  Sure it went in with little resistance... But getting it out... that was a fucking nightmare.  After about 15 minutes and the help of a pair of pliers and spraying rem oil down the bore it finally came lose and pulled out.  Needless to say, I threw that in the garbage.  IT was only like 1.50 but man was it a pain in the ass to get that thing out.

You should try a gun store.

Ok let me be a little nicer....I don't like bore brushed in the first place...Theorectically, you shouldn't pull anything backthrough the barrel. I typically, on the guns I clean, use Jags with patches. I brush should not be required.

Run a patch wet with solvent.

Let it sit for a minute.

Run a dry patch.

Repeat this until you stop getting powder/copper.

On a WASR or most any AK I would just shoot some breakfree down the bore after shooting and forgetr about it.

You did push the brush out all the way before reversing direction with it and pulling it back through, right?  Please tell me you did.  You don't EVER pull the brush back through without going ALL the way through the bore.  This may explain your difficulty.

No I didnt push it all the way thru, there was to much resistance so I thought that wouldnt be a good idea.

There's supposed to be resistance...it's a tight fit to get all the grooves clean.  If you reverse directions while the brush is in the bore, you'll have a hell of a time getting it out, fubar the brush, and fubar your bore.  Push it all the way through before reversing directions!  There's nothing wrong your 30 cal brush for a 7.62 AK, just DON'T reverse it in the bore!

Its almost impossible to get one for an AR 15 thats compatable with anything except for am M16 USGI issue cleaning set.

Now for an AK, I can see how a little soaking and a patch would do. In the M16 the gunk builds up around the bolt lock and you need one.

+1

Go all the way through!  If anything, a 7.62 brush will be slightly smaller than the SKS bore.  IIRC, it is .308 vs. .311.  In any case, don't go hog wild with the brush.  Wet the bore with solvent/patch.  Let it soak.  Go through a few times with the brush all the way out past the muzzle.  Go through with some clean patches.  Voila!  Definitely pick up a few brushes since it's good to have some extras.  Post more questions if you need to.  That's what this place is for.
