OK, I know this topic (in some form or another) has been discussed and I did search for as much info as I could, BUT, I'd just like some other opinions before I plunk down my hard earned cash. Rifles I am currently thinking real hard about are Vector Underfolder 7.62 (Jensen has 'em for $579 shipped in the EE) ----- Yugo Underfolder from Atlantic, about $650 but no chrome lined bbl ---- Polish underfolder at Atlantic for about $650........
As I am  new  the AK game any advice I can get will be greatly appreciated! The last rifle I bought was an AR10A4c and it was spendy (for me at least). I really want an underfolder AK mostly because I like the looks (just plain looks mean) and I'd like a plain 'ole  fun gun (other than my .22!) I've got the the OK for an under $700 purchase and an AK underfolder sounds like a lot of fun ---

Buy a Polish parts kit and have it built on a Global receiver.  That way you get the full heat treated receiver and no gap between the receiver cover and selector.  Unless one of those you listed uses the Global Trades receiver.

There is nothing wrong with the lil gap on the Vector unless you are perfectionist. I love my Vector great trigger and looks great and shoot very well. Mine is one of the first ones that was made . Atlantic had a great deal with them . Let me know if you want some close up shots of mine.

My Polish underfolder cost $600.
$200 for an very good condition kit (new but finish wear)
$100 for US parts (G2 FCG, tapco piston, slant brake, Global Trades 1mm receiver)
$300 to have it built, parked and KG Guncoated.

I'll tell you what I think when I get it back from the smith, sometime next week

I have a Vector Underfolder and I like it a lot.  It has a great trigger and is accurate.  It also carries a 5 year warranty, that is never a bad thing on a gun.  If you could build it yourself a kit would be the way to go.  If you can't like me - I went for the Vector.

Get with Atlantic and buy a Vector.  Awesome guns and great people to deal with.

Mak, can you explain how to build a blank w/o this gap?  What is the lesson learned here..

I bought the Global Trades (Armory USA) Polish underfolder.  It's already built on their receiver.  It came with bayo, mag and mag pouch.

It was around $650.  Excellent rifle.

Buy a Global Trades receiver as it is heat treated and does not give you the gap.  The OOW receiver has the gap due to the selector hole being drilled incorectly.

As for bending a blank, I can't see doing it as it is too much work for me.  Blank cost $12.00-$18.00, got to bend it so you probably need a jig (unless you have sheetmetal equipment, I don't though my dad used to, I nearly failed metal shop) You have to heat treat,  weld rails, etc.  Just too much for me for just a couple of builds.

Ewbanks receivers can be gotten here in AZ at gunshows for $40.00 from Joeken, they also carry Global Trades receivers.  I also have a local source that carries Global Trades receivers for $60.00 local sales when he has them if he does the build.

+1 for this Rifle also. I have a fixed stock rifle from Global trades and it has a 1.6mm reciever which I like and the furniture is beutiful. I paid $499 for the fixed stock blond furniture. I got it planning on putting an ACE folder on it but the wood is to nice to replace.
