Can bolts be swapped in new rifles or is headspacing setup needed per gun?

I am thinking of adding a new bolt with a spring loaded firing pin to an unfired rifle with a free float pin.  The parts are factory, just not sure they are drop in...  Also good to know for spare parts, etc.

Thanks in Advance,
UD

I alway's thought there was a headspace issue. Where's Newt when we need him ...

If you swap bolts in AKs you WILL need to check headspace.

Thanks for the replies.  I had an email to K-Var but have not heard back.

I was thinking of buying spare parts including a complete bolt with firing pin, ejector and carrier which are listed on the K-Var site.  I guess it is not as easy as I had hoped.

Anybody have any links for how to head space an AK, hopefully with pictures?

I'm a bit of gunsmithing newb, What is is headspacing? Does it have something to do with checking the fit of   a bolt to the chamber or similar stuff?

Sure, 9 times out of 10 the headspacing should be fine, but it's that 1 out of 10 times that will blow your gun up. Willing to take those odds?

Would you risk injury and the destruction of your rifle for "it should be ok"?

Who sells 7.62x39 headspacing gauges? I only really need a field gauge.

Hey every time you pull the trigger on any gun it could blow up, it's a chance you take.

If your face/hand/life aren't all that important and can be easily replaced? I would tend to agree.

No one's ragging on you Jerret.

Headspacing ISN'T hard to do, and only takes up a few seconds of your time. Better safe than sorry eh? A bullet can exert a HUGE amount of force, and sometimes we take that for granted shooting round after round out of our guns with proper headspacing. But if that force should ever be held back, or directed back to you, you could get seriously hurt. This is NOT a small thing.
