Smooth plastic handguards?

I ordered a few (three) Romanian AKM kits from AIM Surplus a while ago, just got off the phone with them and I should have the kits by the end of the week. I’ll need to start accumulating other parts (receivers, one sidefolder, fire control parts and so on) but I’d really like to use plastic furniture and a smooth plastic handguard. All I seem to find though is the lower handguard with all the lines in it. Does anyone know where to find AKM like smooth plastic handguards?

Thanks, Chris

If you can find some older Chinese synthetic forends, that would work.  They were cloth impregnated synthetic.

One reason most countries that use synthetic handguards on them have some kind of ridges is because they get pretty slippery when you have sweaty hands or oil on them.

Choate makes handguards for MAK 90's that are smooth, not sure how well they would fit on a regular AK though.

I think they'll fit, but the lower could move side to side about 1mm.

They also dont have a heat shield. I have heard (but never actually witnessed) they can melt if you shoot a lot at once. Someone else can confirm/deny that.
