i hear its hit and miss with hollow points. it could be the rifle. i cant find the thread but there was one with wolf HP and some smaller caliber AK versions . but then again, i have only fired 500 rounds thru mine, so i probably dont have anything concrete yet. sorry if im wasting anyones time! |
I had'nt had my java when I posted.5.45 FMJ...Check 7.62 thats what I was looking for yesterday.....Damn my bad it's hard for even me to keep up with what I want... ETA: Wolf is a last resort for my ammo need's..But they will take it back and give you a refund..

I had the same failure to extract issue with my last lot of poly coated 5.45mm several times. The lot number was N039.04. The case would be 1/3 way out of the chamber before the extractor claw slips off causing the reload cycle to hang badly. Whatever you do, don't close the bolt behind it to re-extract it. It'll be stuck in the chamber so badly that it had to be hammer out with a cleaning rod from the muzzle. The next time that happened, I held the bolt open with one hand and pry the case out with a small, flat-head screw driver. Good thing I was not in the middle of a fire fight. ![]() No such issue with Barnaul. Note to self: Wolf for plinking; Barnaul for SHTF. |
THANK YOU!!! this was on a lot no No38_03 so that is pretty dang close to yours. exactly, they would extract halfway sometimes just like you said. (although i did make the mistake of rechambering, needless to say i ruined two cheapo cleaning rods now) im sending this batch back for a refund of the full 1000rd case. im guessing QC has gone to shit on the 5.45 due to keeping up with demand. since all the 5.45 kits have been coming in, 5.45 has been hard to order, always on bakorder online. got a online link that sells the silver bear? thanks again |

Ask and ye shall receive.......I've had good luck with these guys, they're pretty much on the "good guy" list. AIM Surplus www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/copy_of_5_45x39.html |

Just got this from Bill at Wolf Ammo: KF -------------------------------------------------------------- Troy, This is the first I have heard of any 5.45 problems. We received Rob's email and asked him to call us. I'll pass the info over to the factory. Thanks for the info. Bill |

Just called in. I think I got Bill on the phone, he was very helpful. He told me this is the first time someone is having problems with the new 5.45, well the first person who has contacted them about it. Anyway, they are sending me some replacement stuff, and are going to look at the stuff i have. I'll let you guys know how it works. |
I had the same problem, failure to extract fully. It happened after 300 or 400 rounds of Wolf. Gun always runs perfect with Barnaul. I have finished that case and shot a couple more with no problems. I thought it was a fluke. I had to tap it out with the cleaning rod to get the shell out of the chamber.

finally getting back around to this. there were some delays on my end i got the new case of silverbear 5.45 FMJ. 900 rds or something like hat ups should be picking up the unused wolf soon (and wolf shipping replacemnt ammo). i've yet to try the silverbear, have not gotten a chance yet. |
+1, I don't like the polymer coating. Only reason they did start using polymer is because AR owners complained about the lacquer coating causing problems. I don't know why they had to make everything coated with polymer especially 5.45mm. |
