| Having a bitch of a time deciding. Gimme some input!!!! |

I'm very much a fan of the 74 over the 47, especially for full auto. Recoil is vastly different. Every 74 I've shot has been easier to shoot accurately. Maybe I'm just a flinchy bastard though. Ammo availability is generally worse, fewer people shoot them. Years from now barrels will probably be harder to get. If you have the insane idea of reloading for an AK-74 then you'll be left with expensive Redding dies and almost no load data. |

I own both in semi auto and have fired both in slective fire modes. The 74 is not a bad gun to shoot and I think it is more accurate and a lot less recoil and muzzle rise. Ammo availability is touch and go. The 47 is a good all around gun, ammo is cheap accuracy is good enough for me, ammo is everywhere and cheaper. I shoot both, but prefer the 47. And like my ex said when I started her on a 47 (her first gun ever fired) then later gave her a 74 to shoot she said "I don't like that gun it is small and wimpy-the 47 feels more like a real gun" she might be my ex but I'd have to agree with her there-she said the same about my CAR15. |

Stockign cases ahead of time is easy enough for the 5.45, and the 5.56 option shares some feed ange sensitivity and mag price issues with the AR. Exceptions and bugets vary, but a 74 best 5 will usually be 2" and the 47 best 5 3". 47 drops fast after 150yds, and the 5.45 drops fast at about 250 yds very much like 5.56 paths. Plate shoots and BFest have me shooting more 7.62, but 5.45 is my favorite plinker blaster out of 14 cal on hand. |

7.62x39 AKs, you have more options with stock styles with either fixed or underfolding or sidefolding too. You have more choices in magazine capacity, from 5 to 100 rds. Receivers are milled or stamped. Magazines are cheap and plentiful. 5.45x39 AKs, you're limited to either Romanian varients or Bulgarian part kit builds or the Arsenal Inc SLR-105R A1. You got choices of a fixed stock or side folder. Magazines are cheap and plentiful. Magazine capacity is limited mostly to 30 rd mags, since the RPK 45 rd mags are expensive and rare. |
