I am considering shelling out the $'s for a firing line milled receiver.  Can anyone with experience with them tell me how they liked them?

If you don't already have a kit investment, I think the SAM7 is a better deal than a $300 rec, kit, US parts, build, finish.

Don't have a FL, but they seem to get good reviews.

Love my SAM7SF.

They're nice receivers from what I've heard but the exterior machining is somewhat different than a milspec receiver (i.e.Arsenal), and there's a giant eagle logo which unfortunately is unsightly to many.  If you don't care about authenticity or cosmetics then it's no big deal.

The pros to these receivers is that they are available in threaded to work with early type III barrels (instead of pressed and pinned).

Of course they also count as 1 US part.

Now if only Arsenal would offer stripped milled receivers....they'd sell like hot cakes!

Greetings,

Email Josh Newton, he built a gun on one of their receivers.  On the new production they have moved the emblem to the underside of the receiver.

Firing Line receivers are beautifully machined and great receivers.

The newest generation of them apparently will have the Eagle on the receiver bridge between the mag well and the handguard, so it's not as conspicuous.

You would think that they could do away with the eagle all together.  That's one thing I wish Global would do... remove their little logo and just put the serial number on the bottom... Actually, I've heard Global will do just that on a special request order.

You would think so.  Its the machine shops logo or something.  But hey..only a billion people have complained about the eagle and some people have avoided the reciever altogether over it but I guess they can't get rid of it.

I to was unhappy with the logo but with the stock folded you cant see it..
the quality of the reciever makes up for the logo.. i love mine, shoots well and is a center piece of my AK collection..

Fill the logo in with JB Weld. Refinish with Alumahyde II, or coating of your choice.

Easy.

Or you can silver solder it.  JB weld will eventually fail.

I have seen and inspected their receivers in person.  They set up in Tulsa, OK at every big Wanenmacher show.  The machining is very well done.  I have watched the quality of their cosmetic details evolve over the past few years and they REALLY make a nice receiver now.  I looked at one of their Krink builds in April - it was outstanding.  I bought a Norinco 56S-1 from them at the show and found Mike courteous, helpful, and easy to deal with.

This one is a SG Type III done by FL on one of the milled units. Looks and shoots fine.

Their only problem is that they can't deliver any of their receivers.
I've had one on order since March, and they keep telling me that the machine shot that makes them is backed up. Every month I call them and they tell me 30 more days......

it took 2 months to recieve the FL reciever ...

and as a note about filling in the markings,  yes you can weld the logo up and smooth the welds
where you cant see it ,,BUT a Russian type III reciever on the early guns was blued.. you cant
weld or fill in the logo and blue it as it will show ...  The blued finish on my kit was in great shape
for its age.. worn ... the trick was to blue the Fl reciever to match the other pieces..

I know I'm not the only one who thinks about those $100 stripped Bulgarian milled receivers that were around a few years ago, and that I let slip away without getting one (or 10).
