I was looking through atlanticfirearms.com and found what looks like an AR in 7.62x39 that uses AK mags. Looks interesting. Anybody seen these or shot any of these? Im wondering if the accuracy is close to that of an AR, in 7.62 that would be sweet! thanks

If I wanted accuracy I'd buy a Rem. 700 bolt action and put a nice scope on it ...

If I wanted an AR ... Well ... I think I'd just have to shoot myself ...

Unless you can handload the 7.62X39, or buy some of the U.S. made ammo, I wouldn't expect the AR platform to perform much better than the AK ...

The 7.62X39 cartridge is not produced to be extremely accurate ... Inconsistent is what I'd call it !!

ETA: It is a step up for the AR tho ...................................................

J/K: The AR is a damn fine rifle ... I admit to having owned a couple and shot quite a few ... In FA it's a bad MF ...

Looks kinda like the SR-47 that Knight's was working on a while ago.  Neato.

Vulcan Armament though...I dunno about that one.  And by "I dunno" I mean "I'm not sure that's going to work at all."  Someone else is gonna have to be the guinea pig, not me!

I've had one for a couple of years now.  It's awsome.

Just for the record, the lower is not Vulcan.  It is marked "special weapons" (yeah, I know) but it is actually made by a company out of Ohio....Michaels Machines IIRC.  I just bought the stripped receiver and had the machine work on the upper done myself.  This one has never seen the inside of Mr. Bailey's shop.

I was also interested in getting a AR-47....but then I read that it has problems with the bolt head cracking due to the amount of metal that is milled away.

If you want an AK round for the AR platform I would go with the 5.45 conversion!

The bolt head cracking is an over stated problem...  This is the same problem with all AR-15s in 7.52x39 and it would affect the 5.45x39 in the same way...  In order to use the larger cartridge head you need to take some material off the bolt and steel cases can be hard on it...

Still, I have a pair of AR-47s as well as an AR-15 upper in 7.62x39 and I have never had a problem...

These are fun guns and they work great with any 7.62x39 mag I would use with the AK...

As for accuracy... I buy cheap ammo so no they really are not real accurate but they will certanly shoot more accurately then the SAR because of better sights if nothing else!
