I like the kobra you can choose 4 different reticles, brightness and the such.  I have read that they are not so durable after a large round count.  If you shop around a bit you can find one for a good deal.  IMHO I would stick with Russian optics on your AK, they just look better than US optics.  Try here for some ideas...

Freedom Optics

You can also try E-bay, I have found a couple there and saved a bit.

If the Kobra isn't durable, I'm not wasting my money. I can get a US made Red Dot with a lifetime warranty for a fraction of the price.

Durable - Hah!  Come on! this is a military application optic. Of course its going to hold up.  Mine has been for over a year and blasted about 1000-2000 rounds between my AK's.  I move from one to the next.  Batterly Life - It comes in either a AA battery or a little watch type battery you can get for 2.39 at Radio Shack.  I prefer the little watch type battery.  The ONLY time mine has run out is when I leave it on and put it back in the safe!!

I love the Kobra's!

Here it is on my SEAK (AK74)

They are built like a tank.

I've had one over two years, it's still going strong.
I don't abuse my equipment, but I don't baby it either.

IMHO, Kobras were a really smoking deal when they first came out and only cost $120-130.  Now that they are around $200 I personally think they are a bit overpriced for what you get, but then again they are still considerably cheaper than an Aimpoint or EOtech setup, and they have the mount built in...

I've owned one, their good if you want a red dot over your AK.  Keep in mind it's pretty high over the bore.  I ended up selling mine as I signed onto the school of thought that AK's weren't meant for optics, but some guys swear by them.

The Kobra's are very well made though, rugged enough to sit atop an AK variant.  The variable reticules are fun to play with.  I found the Dot over the Chevron to be the fastest.

I've Kobra too... the AA version.
It's damn fine red dot optic.
Now, I need to get the newer version... don't get me wrong. AA version is still one of the best optics money can buy!

Not with a Kobra unless you have the cheek of a bloodhound.

Do not use anything other than Russian optics on your AK. Else, the AK gods will strike you dead.

I have a PK AS C it is pretty sweet...I read some reviews and decided with the PK AS C over the Kobra but the cobra definetly looks better and is a little cheaper...I like having a back up black dot there...it's nice.

Also, the PK AS is off to the side a bit so it takes a little getting used to BUT you can use your ironsights easily aswell.  It feels tough but I haven't messed with it too much.

LINKY

BTW, the PK AS is made in Belarus...pretty damn close to Russian.

welp i just got it today and the only problem i see so far (i think its a problem) is the little lens where the beam comes out isnt very clean theres little bumps around the edges and when you look through the site some of the red bleeds into the bumps which is kind of distracting.  Should i return for another or is this a common issue?

I like mine. My only gripe about it is I wish the brightest settings were a little brighter, as sometimes it tends to wash out if its a really bright day. Other than that, its a cool, heavy duty optic.
