i bought several tapco flats last year cuz they were cheap...i would like to have an accurate east german ak made with ddr nva-style serial numbers and markings. can anyone tell me who can bend my flats, do the heat treating, trunnion installation, do the engraving/stamping, etc? i figgered if anybody can help it would be you guys! i looked back a few pages but couldn't find any info. grassy-ass moochaychos! |
Only you can bend the flats and install the trunnions (if you don't want to break the law). If you want someone to build you an AK from a kit, you would need to start with a registered receiver (like the OOW, or Global trades). |

It sounds like you should get a 100% receiver. Flats are for people who want to have a hand in making the AK, not handing it out to have someone else do it. A flat will easily cost as much as a 100% receiver after you're done with tooling and time (depends on how many flats you make). Me, I'd rather toil in the garage for hours making it myself rather than buying it outright in the beginning (for probably the same cost). Crazy idea, huh? |

aaahhh, no shit? i thought there was some way a gunsmith could assign a serial number then register it with the feds... problem with doing it myself is i have ZERO mechanical ability. it's just much less stressful for me to pay to have someone do it for me! ETA: thanks for the info, btw!!! |

I guess someone could, but why would they? They'd much rather sell you a pre-made receiver all heat treated and ready to go instead of a $12 piece of metal and 2 hours of labor to get the thing up to what theirs already are. If you're close to MD, I can help you out. Otherwise, finding a build party in your area would be really cheap and you'd certainly come out with a > 0% mechanical ability You didn't lose out in any case, you can sell those flats or hang on to them until you want to bend them up. |
