I was in the Redjacket shop & was able to shoot the prototype model. There are pics of it on Gunco.net. Will is going to produce this for the market. Sure is fun, light & accurate. Check it out.

YUM

"Yeah , it is an AK-9 . Do we want to put a nickname behind it though? Not Bizon or Master or Krinkov , but somthing along those lines ? We're looking at it as a production rifle series , I'd like somthing cool and catchy behind the AK-9 . "Tactical Carbine " just seems kinda bland . { NOT "Frankenanything" Blaine !} The onlything non std "AK" is the barrel and mag .
Oh , about the rifle , The 100 series frontend will be standard as will a siderail . Standard furniture will be Bulgarian blk plastic from k-var . Sidefolder will be the Ace . All std AK accesories , furniture , triggers , ultramak gastube , optics , whatever , drop right on . It uses the 36 rnd Soumi mag . We do plan on selling individual parts and some sort of kit for the "do it yourselfers" . Or not , What do you guys think ? Is there a market for an AK-9 ? Help us out guys, We need some feedback on this !"

Yeah, they said in that thread it is going to cost about the same as a 9mm AR15.. That is way more than I would want to spend on a 9mm AK..

Agreed.  If it's in that ballpark, I'll go with an AR without hesitation.

take care,

Ouch!  I guess I missed the part about being comparably priced with the AR 9mm.  Oh well, I will still most likely have to get one....  It's all part of the disease.

How much it cost us to produce it has been our biggest hold up . It's all new parts , not a kit rebuild , with a special made receiver for the shortened action .   I know there's a bit of sticker shock when its priced along side a 9mm AR , then again I'm sending out thousand dollar AK,s everyday of the week . Thats something that if you'd asked me 10 years ago I would have said would never happen.   We figure our market for this rifle will be the same guys that buy  the Krinks and other high-end AK's .I have no intrest in building the "Tec" of AK varients . We havnt set a exact price yet , we're still setting up the parts pipeline and trying to keep the cost as reasonable as we can .   I would never point someone at our 9mm carbine if price is thier only consideration anymore then I would point them at a HK clone .  Marlin and Ruger already make that gun .

that sounds exactly what i was planning on trying to build myself.  i definatley would like one, just can't afford it right now (or any new guns).  $1000 for a quality Ak9 is about the top i would pay.

Anyone have a picture that doesn't require me to sign up for a forum?

FYI , at this time there has not been a price set for the rifle, this will be determined after the R&D phase is final. The 9mm AK will be priced below $999 ,how much lower will be determined on negotiations with our parts vendors etc. Since the assault weapons ban expired quality new parts have dried up and the prices have increased thus making  the builds more expensive. We will be offering a nice AR15.COM member discount .The 9mm AK will be comparable to a Krinkov ,these will be high quality hand built guns not Century Arms production line junk. Will is working on several build em like a tank features including a 1.6mm thick dedicated 9mm receiver !! .We hope to have these on the market as soon as possible but are spending a fair amount of time and money in the R&D phase. Both Red Jacket & Atlantic  want to make sure this is a well built  ,well thought through rifle before it is released & not a hack-n-wack rifle .  This is probably one of the most exciting AK projects to hit the US market in years !!   Thank You Blaine Bunting / Atlantic Firearms, llc
