I have a Saiga .308 with a badly canted front sight. I understand I need to remove the front sight, reinstall it straight, redrill the holes with a 1/8" bit, and replace the pins with 3mm steel. I already have the front sight off. I have a few questions before I reach the point of no return:

How do I keep everything straight when drilling the new holes? Will the grooves in the top of the barrel drill easily?

Where do I find 3mm round steel stock? Why can't I reuse the original pins?

Any help will be appreciated, especially lessons from experience. Thanks

Yes, please let us know as the link is not working at the Build it yourself forum.

Thanks in advance and BTW, refresh me on the removal procedure too.

I've done a couple of canted sights but I never completely removed them. Maybe put it back where it was, line up the old holes, straighten it and then redrill the holes with your 1/8 bit. I alway's just hold it in place while drilling as they are always fairly tight, do one hole and then the other.  Use a 1/8 rod from the local hardware store and ping or tack the ends once it's in. Should work ...

Wait a while and a builder may be able to tell you more ...

To remove the sight from the Saiga, all I did was remove the pins and hit the back of the sight with a plastic hammer. I think regular AK sights are pressed on, but I'm  not sure.
