Anyone recommend the Tapco Gailil type handguards?  I want some synthetic handguards for my Romy cause I dont like the one that came with it.  I know midwest armoy and now DPH have them I just dont know if they would be to my liking.  Any thoughts would be great.

I suppose it depends on what size hands you have and how you do most of your shooting,  rested or offhand.  I liked it for offhand, it fit my hand though it was fairly tight between the bumps on the bottom.    And they feel fairly fat.  That was all good things for me since I have fairly big hands

It wasn't very good for rested shooting unless you have it a sand bag or something.  And when shooting free hand you are limited to where you hang onto the thing, pretty much dead center of the guard.  Another thing is to pull the gas tube you have to remove tthe top cover piece  (if you put it in to start with) which snaps in with pegs in hole in each corner on the top lip on the handguard.  Not a big deal, but one more thing to do to break it down.

well here is my caution on anything that is a US made aftermarket plastic handguards........ unless they come with a heat sheild, and is made from quality plastic,  which knowing tapco it probably isn't, I wouldn't waste my money on them.

I saw one yesterday at the Gunshow and was extremely dissappointed in the extreme "lack of quality". It's as cheap as cheap gets. I'm glad I hadn't ordered one like I was planning, as it would have been a waste of $30.00 ...
In my opinion it's pure shit ...

under heavy firing they hold up pretty well, they get warm but don't melt.  they're not as good as the K-var ones though, but they do have a better grip than wood handguards without the swells, as long as your hand fits the groove.

I just melted my Tapco synth off by dumping 2 mags in my AK-47.

jeez, i guess your mileage may vary.  i was able to dump a few mags back to back without a problem, the wood ones on the other hand practically caught on fire when i tried it.

I have sold quite a few and havent had any complaints yet. I know Tapco has alot of products some of them good and some of them bad. I would consider this to be medium quality as in I dont think its junk but I wouldnt rank it at the top either. If you like the look and design then I think you will be happy with it and honestly I dont think you will run into any problems.
ETA My opinion may be a little bias but I do have one on one of my AMD's and have been pleased with it.

Their mounting from the lower brackets only makes them good for AMD budget builds. Nothing says you can't wecsog your own heat sheilding either.

In fact, they are so big that WECSOGing a heat shield should be pretty easy.

I just got mine from the EE, and I too found the quality disappointing.  The plastic is alot thinner than that of their SAW pg or a set of Bakelite hgs or Choate's hgs, but they still feel better than ATI's hgs.  And the plastic is very stiff, so they feel sturdier than they look.
