Does anyone have experince with Firing Line builds?  Everyone says their receivers are top notch and I noticed on their site they do builds also.  Wondered if anyone here had used them and how it turned out.  TIA

High quality receivers, they're currently the only choice if you want a threaded receiver for the early type III barrels.

The only complaints I've heard is that their mag well lightening cut doesn't look "right" compared to the original (too shallow...too squarish...etc), although I heard that they have recently improved. and there's an eagle logo on the left side of the receiver that most people didn't like.

Didn't hear about any other problems, just compliments.

the only complaints i keep hearing about are people buy these SP kits thinking they are getting a
real Russian AK that they can slap together cheaply with a stamped reciever.. These guys need to do some reserach before they buy.. They also gripe and complain that the kits are trash ,which some are, but they dont realise these guns are about 50 years old ... your not going to get a
like new kit...
To the guys that went the distance and finish these classic guns , pay the price, and wind up with a real shooter they can be proud of!! My hats off to you guys for the effort...

I'm with you 100% Pat. However, [my opinion]These guns deserve to be built and preserved as originally as possible. These guns have served various masters in combat around the world for a half-century and should be given a dignified retirement. It bums me out to see such a beautiful weapon "dressed up" in unoriginal type garb. Stick with blued steel and Russian laminated or original type hardwood for these builds. [/my opinion]

I'm absolutely not knocking anyone's weapon! Just my $.02 based on my experience with many of these original rifles in Afghanistan and Iraq. I see them as historic, even folk art.

Thanks for the replies especially the pictures patm41.  The receiver in the last pic looks blued and matches the rest of the kit.  Did Firing line do that or did your friend have it done else where?

Wanted to add that these rifles were sometimes arsenal reconditioned to include a parked finish. It's not totally unoriginal. I guess I'm just biased towards the worn-out blued look that Haji has on all of his AKs.

Damn glad to see another one rescued.

Firing Line built my Bulgarian AK-74 on one of their milled receivers. The rifle has been problematic every since I got it. Anyone want to buy a cheap AK?

Do tell.....
Have you discussed it with them or even bothered to send it back to be fixed??

I have had  4 built with them (2 74's and a side folder as well as a underfold)
and nothing but great things to say!!
Precise work, great results, good people who stand behind their work.
Mike(the owner) is a great guy.
So my 2 cents is over all....Great builds, rock hard recievers, good guys overall !

You definetly need to call tFL and have a talk with them.  Mike is a great guy and stands behind his work.  I have had a couple rifles built by him, friend has several rifles built by him, and he is a great ClassIII guy.  Call him and give him a cahnce to make it right.

As to the milled threaded receivers, they look pretty good and work great.  I do not know of any other manufacture for the milled threaded receiver.  Blue or park and paint is all correct for the Type III receiver being original or overhauked at the armory.
