Just Curious as to what the overall length is of the average AK with the stock removed.  Does the tang the stock mount to get included in the overall measurement?

I ask as I've recently seen several of the Hood at the local range with Ak's minus the buttstocks.

We won't even talk about why I pack and leave with every other sane person when they show up.

probably about 24-26 inches.  IIRC the receiver is about 10 inches with 16 inches of barrel, however about 2 inches of barrel are in the front trunnion.

The OAL is right at 26" or so.  I don't have a tape measure handy but I've checked it before & it was a skosh over 26" (post ban Romak-2 with bare muzzle).  Paranoia re the OAL of the AMD-65 kit I bought prompted me to measure & compare reciever length, etc.
The tang counts, same as a welded on muzzle brake/flash hider.  IIRC the OAL of a folding stock rifle is measured with the stock open but if the stock is detatchable then the OAL is measured with the stock removed .
At least on the Federal level, state laws may differ.  There have been a few cases of folks with underfolder AKs getting a state SBR conviction because Kalifornia law uses the folded length as OAL.

When I build my AMD-65 I'm going to use a standard rear block with tang & use a Romanian wire folder just to be safe re OAL.  Why risk having the ATF, etc change their mind how OAL is measured.

from the tang to the muzzle it's 26.5 inches, less then 26 if you measure from the back of the receiver to the muzzle.
