Anyone have any ideas on threading a SLR 105R?  Is there anyway I can do it myself?

check out the equipment exchange.  they rent out threading kits.

what i'd do is buy a new bulgarian front site base from k-var and put that on.

Is it easy to take off and replace the front site? Id rather not sent my rifle away.

I've never done it, but I wouldn't say it's hard, but not easy either. Once you drive out the pins, you could use a block of wood and a hammer to drive it off.

I imagine reinstalling it is just the opposite.

It's much, much, much better if you have someone with a press who can take it off.

The only way I can see using the press would be with muzzle facing up toward the press and the bayo lung on the block, with a spacer between the frong sight rising and then press down on the muzzle with a punch almost the exact size as the barrel diameter.  You would have to be very very careful.

wait, the block doesn't have a clean enough edge for the bay, you would have to use a sharper spacer on the block for the bay also i would imagine.

It's better if you have a smith that specializes in AK to do it for you.
