| Other than just being a silly thing to do, for a show gun (and the occasional firing session), what parts would you not want to chrome plate? Also, What is the max # of rounds you would put through it at a time so the chrome won't melt off or get funny coloring? I'm sure Nickle has a melting temperature, I'm not sure how long it would take to reach that temp. I've called around and it seems like it will run around $200.h.gif |

i dont see why it would get hot enough to run off. isnt the bore chrome lined...it should be fine on the outside. ive thought about that before just as a show gun/something to talk about. i dont think i would ever want to shoot it, maybe once in a blue moon. sounds cool though.

There was a chrome plated Mak90 on gunbroker a looong time ago. People made fun of it in the GD, but i wouldnt mind havin one to put on display, i liked it. If i were u, and not a poor college kid, i'd chrome plate one. Do it. Ill see if i can find the pic somewhere... Edit: Heres an Norinco 84-s Hard Chrome Plate. Not the same as what ur thinking, but its all i could find. www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=30379579 ![]() ![]() ![]()

The nickel plating is still on my S&W model 10 and flame comes out of the cylinder gap every time you pull the trigger. The nickel plating is still on the cylinder face, barrel, and top strap that are directly exsposed to the flame. The burning powder is a lot hotter than any part of the outside of a AK rifle would be exsposed too. Nickel melts at 2651 F and chromium melts at 3465 F. So as long as you don't use your chrome plated AK to stir the melted steel in a blast furnace the finish should hold up fine. The only part that you wouldn't want plated is the front and rear sights. |
Go gor it. It's your gun, if you like the idea of it knock yourself out! Maybe oneday I will get one of mine chromed, if I decide I don't like it I can always list it on gunbroker and make a fortune selling it as a rare ceremonial rifle or something. |

You should be able to hard chrome the whole thing if you can get it apart. Just make sure that (a) the barrel is plugged to prevent plating inside the bore, and (b) the thickness of the plating will not cause reassembly problems. Any local plating shop should be able to do this for you pretty cheap provided you do all the disassembly and cleaning work first. Maybe try to find one with experience plating guns... they will have to use the right type and thickness of plating (particularly at pin holes and such where the increased current density will cause a thicker build up). If it were me, I would try this on a cheap WASR first |

Initial reports indicate that the INC are incredibly POOR gunmen with consummately poor handling techniques. I've actually heard that weapons training in much of the Mideast is approached with a much different philosophy than in the US, and that practices are commonsplace that most of us would find atrocious. There's exceptions of course...Jordanian forces and some Hamas units come to mind. BTW, how is that scope being held on there? It looks pretty solid, and nice and low! |
Dude!! Get a bigger helmet! HA!HA!HAAaaaaa!! I gots a big grape also ... so I have the right to make comments like that Thanks for your service bro!
