For felllow SEAK owners who have had this problem,  what is the best type of soap to stop the chemical reaction that is causing rust to form around rivets, scopemount , handgrip and inside the reciever  I could not pull up a link by duing a search.           Thanks for any info

I use breakfree CLP or Militec on my weapon. Using it for general cleaning and putting a light coat on the receiver parts(very light).

Kuiper,  this has been an issue with the finish of custom ak builds.  The blark has to be neutralized properly or it begins to rust.  No amount of clp will stop it.  There have been past post on this topic, maybe one of the mods can provide a link.

I'd send it back to ORF and make them fix it for you. Their finish should not rust and they should remedy the problem.

Birddogz,

Sorry dude, thought you had a general problem. Not something specific with your finish...misread it.

When we say "custom AK builds", are we referring to everyone's builds are having these issues, or just the "blarked" AK builds as part of the SEAK project?

The best thing to do is to strip your AK down and boil 2 large pots of water. 1 pot of water you need to add DAWN dish detergent. Get a tooth brust and pour the boiling dish water over the rifle, this will open up the pores of the metal and neutralize the finish from rusting anymore. After you do this take the boiling pot of clean water and rinse the rifle off.

Then I took a degreaser (brake cleaner) and completely hosed the rifle down, this way I can get off any soap residue that may do damage to the rifle. I dried the rifle with a hair dryer and then soaked it in CLP for about 10 minutes. I then wiped all of the access off and put the rifle back together.

I did this as soon as possible to neutralize the salts. I have no problem with my finish.

Thanks Msokol13,  I was hoping someone who had done this would chime in.  I want to make sure I get it right.
kythri, I am not refering to everyones custom builds, this seems to mainly be a problem with the seaks.  I kept it general to keep this post from being a bash ORF post.  If I can fix it by giving it a bath, I'll do it myself.  Overall the rifle shoots very well and I am pleased with it.

Thanks for the info - I had seen something about this earlier, and wasn't sure if it was due to a specific finish or run of rifles, or something else entirely.  I'm going to have some rifles back after a while, and was just curious if this was an issue that I'd have to deal with as well.
