Ok I just bought a romanian ak.  Only gun experience I have is handgun...Ive shot a 9 millimeter handgun and just some high powered pellet gun rifles.  What im askin is how is the recoil on this thing.  I am 19 years old, but I am a pretty small framed man...Only about 135 pounds.  And I know that like malnourished 12 year olds shoot these things on full auto in somalia, but honestly, not sounding like a tough guy, hows it kick?

you will be fine... I have been shooting an SKS since I was like 10....seems like the bigger I get the littler the recoil gets.....weird how that works...

ETA i am 19 too....I shoot an SAR1 and it is just fine....too short of stock but not that bad....

You want recoil...take a old H+R with 3 inch chamber with shortened bbl and hand it to someone with a 3 inch mag in it....heheh that is funny....I guess me and my friends are just mean like that to each other

When I went into the Army at 18 I weighed 126lbs, three weeks later I was begging for more belts for the 60. An AK doesn't have nearly the recoil of an M60.

I was 138 last summer and am 147 right now... I don't think I would mind the recoil if I was still 138.... it is more of a push than a kick...

If I were you I'd get as much ammo as I can afford and shoot it until your shoulder hurts...

My guess it'll be around 1000 rounds.

Im going to a friends farm on friday that has 100 acres to shoot it.  I bought 40 rounds of fmj rounds at gander mountain...Then I realized it was much much cheaper to order it on the internet in bulk..So I ordered 500 rounds of wolf on some site.
3/23/2005 6:32:30 PM EDT

40 rounds will not even be enough to really say you shot it. With AK's I rarely buy in quantities less than 2000.

lol, 40 rounds...you'll shoot it, and then wish you had 400 rounds with ya :D

Where in Ohio is this farm? I need a place to shoot, if you let me go I will let you shoot my SEAK. My AKS-74 has about half the recoil of your AK-47.

I read a lot of posts from people about getting trigger slaps from the WASR's, do all of them do this, or is it only a few?

Same here. I am in North Olmsted.

As far as trigger slap goes. Most will have it, I could show you how to fix it with a dremmel tool. If not, there is a guy selling Tapco G2 FCG's in the Equipment Exchange under AK parts and accessories.

That would be 5.4 rounds per acre. Unless you do something drastic to the ammo, some acres are going to get more rounds in them than the others.

AK47's do not kick hard. They try to climb but the recoil isn't bad. My brother is very small. 5' 6'' and 125lbs. And hes only 16. He shoot my MAK90 easily.

If recoil is an issure pick up an AR15. Hardly any recoil...just lots of noise

My 13 year old son loves my SAR1 AK.   Whenever we go shoot I take an AR and he carries the AK.  He usually burns 300-500 each outing and 20 or so out of HIS .50 ............ of course it's a muzzle loader he built from a kit

That could be me if you need one shoot me a email and I can hook you up for a VERY fair price. As far as the Ak your only worry is gonna be the 40 rounds of ammo you have. Thats only enough to realize that your gonna need a lot more. Im about 170 and love the punch a 47 offers I enjoy a little kick and it offers just the right amount.

Let me echo that  the 7.62x39 in a AK has minimal recoil. My 13 year old granddaughter who is 103lbs loves shooting mine.
3/24/2005 3:18:54 AM EDT
[#27]
The AK has enough recoil to remind you that you just fired it..

As for the trigger slap, it was an issue with Century's crappy fire control group.  The latest runs seem to have the Tapco trigger in from the factory though.  Check on the parts in question, see if there's a "C" on them (junk parts) or "Tapco".

You may not need to replace anything

Bring it to a plate shoot at Tusco near New Philly, I think 4/24 is the next one. And ammunitionstore.com is in N Canton.

Welcome!

What RS 39 says . . . .

And when you come to the steel plates shoots (open to the public -- $5.00 entry fee I think) just make sure you bring a lot more than 40 rounds  ! ! !

And a few extra mags too . . . . . . .

I am an Intern at the Wal-mart in North Olmsted.

If you ever get a range permit for the Grand River Target range let me know. We could probably meet up.

Hey millertime I officailly invite you over to the ohio forum in the hometown secion. There you can find out when the next local get together is. We meet up about once a month over the summer at Grand River target range. You can come and see and shoot alot of different guns. We usually have a pretty nice assorment of ARs and AKs.

I'm from Trumbull county, but I worked up in elyria one summer. I was at parker hannifins airborne division. Enjoy the AK. They can be an addiction.

Come out to the range you can try my AMD 65, the brake on these things makes recoil very small. And you can shoot my AK pistol, just for the fireball and noise.

I would have to bring a friend that is 21 or older...I am only 19 and most ranges you need to be 21 or older.  I really do appreciate the offer...I will look into it.

Well I got to shoot it today..Oh man it was fun..I picked up a few rounds before I did though, so I had a little bit more than 40.  I dont know why I was worried about the recoil, its not bad at all.  It is loud as hell though.  But even though I had a blast lol, the last thing I needed right now is another expensive hobby haha.

Always wear proper hearing protection, gunfire will permanently damage your hearing.

foam earplugs are fine for outdoor use, they're cheap.... USE THEM.
