This has probably already been beaten to death, but I don't keep up too much with AK's so please forgive me.
I had an SAR 1 that I sold, and now I want another AK.  It seems the reviews on these WASR 10's are all over the map;  I'm aware they're a converted lo-cap, but are they at least functional?
What does seem to be the best AK for the least amount of money?  All I need is a beater.

If all you want is a beater check aimsurplus.com they have a good Romanian beater.
Romanian AK's are known to be cheap, + - innacurate and 99% reliable.

Romy it is then. Just look it over like a SAR and pay a few bucks extra to handpick on-site if you can do so.

My WASR had no sight cant, no trigger slap, but some of my mags fit in and seem to wobble a bit.

Other than that, it's truly the AK beater.

classicarms.com has a great deal on Romanian AK's.

$320 for a rifle with bayonet lug and bayonet, sling, two 30-rnd magazines, threaded barrel with detachable slant compensator (NOT welded or pinned in, just unscrew it and add a flash suppressor or silencer if you want), cleaning kit, and a paper target. Oh, and a pouch to carry your spare magazines in.

For $285, get one without the threaded barrel, compensator, and bayonet lug. It comes with the sling, cleaning kit, a 20-rnd mag, 30-rnd mag, and 40-rnd mag, plus a hundred rounds of ammo to play with as soon as you get the rifle.

And their quality control is better than many online places. If the rifle isn't something the dealer would keep for himself, he sends it back and demands a replacement. Great customer service. No slanted sights or gas cylinders, and no crappy finishes on the wood furniture.

I'm ordering the rifle with the bells and whistles plus a thousand rounds of hollow-point ammunition for $420, incuding the fee my local FFL wants for ordering the rifle. Not bad, in my opinion.

I got one a no-ban WASR 10 from classic arms, and am pretty happy. Sure, the finish on the gasblock and F.S.B. isn't perfect, but it's an AK, not a Weatherby safari custom rifle. The mag fit is good with the romanian 30 rounders It has the same or less mag wobble than my M-14 or FAL has. There is no discernable canting of any of the components, and it hits what I aim at so far but I was shooting offhand at 100 meters, I'll have to try longer later. I just got it to have it since it is the most ubiquitous and argueably reckognised rifle in the world, and mags and ammo are dirt cheap.
I got everything else, I had to get an AKM

For my buck, the cheapest option was to convert a lo-cap wasr myself.  I'd like to think I did a better job of it than the Century monkeys too.

Hey, once the 922 parts are replaced (the FCG was original romanian) and a US pistol grip and buttstock are obtained, "all it takes is a dremel and a dream".  Stayed "postban" with it though, no worries  I figured I'd be trashing the stock wood and FCG anyway had I gone with a Century WASR.
