Kind of a newbie AK question here. I have a MAK 90 and I assume the rear most setting on the sight is a battle sight zero setting. Does anybody know what the range of this zero is? I have access to only a 50 yard range at the time and wondered what might be a good sight in point at this range to make the battle sight zero setting effective. In other words, what would might point of aim be at 50 yards. thanks in advance for the assistance. Kevin |

OK. After reading that I am confused again. It says to zero with the 100 meter mark. I still am not sure what the rear most marking is utilized for. On my rifle (MAK-90) it is marked as a D. Do I zero at 25 meters on the 100 meter mark and then slide back to the Dmarking for BSZ?? Kevin |
| No. The battlesight setting is used after the rifle is zeroed. It's purpose is to allow hits on an average torso out to 300 yds, when there's no time to estimate range or reset the sight. It will be 5 or 6" high at 100 yds and 5 or 6" low at 300, which is okay as you should have your front sight on the center of mass anyway. Ideally, you set the sight on 1 and adjust to point of aim at 100. Once that's done, all the other settings are indexed. For a 50 yd range, with the sight on 1, shoot to POA. This gives a zero at 100 yds. (actually, 0.2" high). This is approximate, because I used the NORMA Ballistic Calculator, and they do not list 7.62x39. I used a 123gr bullet with a ballistic coefficient of 0.350, at 2400 fps, with a bore-to-sightline distance of 1.9". Technically, you would shoot to 0.1" below POA at 50 yds. to be exactly right, but that's really splitting hairs with iron sights. Normally you would leave the sight on 1, since it's unlikely you will suffer a surprise attack and need hits at all ranges out to 300. If you do, it only takes a second to slip the sight back to the battlesight setting. For shooting at known distances, adjust the rear sight accordingly. |
