Still going thru box of stuff that came with my SAR 3 I bought past weekend at gun show. When I picked it up I noticed it did not have a cleaning rod attached under whats left of bayo lug and into lower handgaurd, but instead was in box. Well when I tried to assemble it I found out why. The rod is 17" in length, when installed extends past muzzle approx. 3".....what is the deal, anyone? Got me stumped. Jeff

ps. also the green sling is only about 44" in length, when installed barley fits my 10 year old, did I get a midget sling also?

what I got with purchase:
1-sling
2-fixed 17" cleaning rod
3-4 piece cleaning rod
4-greasy cosmo handle w inside the following/jag,patch puller, brush, punch, sight tool(flat screwdriver tip looking??)

#4 fits in the butt stock hole and is very handy

Cleaning rods tend to fall out of the small bore Romy AKs with ground bayo lugs, and it's only an AK....

Is the green sling a funny light metallic pea green? As seen on k-var.com?

RS39, yes the sling looks just like the one listed at KVar under Romy sling for $4.99. Is there supposed to be another half?

What does this 17" cleaning rod fit, was there supposed to be a shorter one to originally go under the bayo lug of the small bore SAR's?

You can install a Russian sling, its longer than most of the other AK slings out there.

That green sling is it, just slide as long as possible and see if you have a reason to get another one.

Both your long rod and 4 piece are probably non-std. Check your bayo lug grinding, if a hold spot is missing for the rod, even the right length will just head down range some day.

PS- what do you have for mags?

Since the barrel is about 16 inches and your rod is 17 inches, tells me it's snagging on something.
In the case of my SAR2, the rod would hit something inside the front of the receiver and stick out too far.  Finally went on in and since I don't use the thing anyway, it wasn't a concern of mine too find exactly what the problem was.
