I was actually doing an image search on "Elephant Guns" on google and found this picture and this short memo "From the first and unsuccessful expedition we see two hunter's assistants carrying the ponderous gun commissioned by Gont Chubb to slay the Hamster Rat. The arms manufacturer Speedle & Sons created this weapon from sketches drafted by Gont's wife Murvel. Though the gun was designed with as liitle "kick-back" as possible, one of Speedle's sons was lamed during testing of a newly milled barrel. The gun was soon retired due to its inaccurate and dangerous nature." All this for a freaking Hamster!!!

I believe it's your standard issue "English Pole Vaulting" Gun. Used during the 1883 "Fruitcake" Wars. It could get the user out of trouble real fast when he ran out of ammo. Could "vault" him over fences and out of harms way.. Here's a picture of Herbert Smidlap testing one from the Royal Sherbert Collection. http://users.camalott.com/~marky/POLE%20VAULTING.jpg |
