Anyone know anything about the WASR-10s that AIM Surplus sells? Do they function properly? Do they need work done on the mag well?

I wouldn't buy a WASR-10 without visually inspecting it for:

-canted FSB/gas tube.
-rough machining marks
-bad finish....well, worse than normal.

Go to a gun show, pay about $20 more and be certain that what you are getting is not a POS.

Added: From my experience and others I know, ordering guns through the web is not a safe idea. I ordered a SAR-1 and was disappointed to find a lot wrong with it.
To make matters worse I went to a gun show a week later and found another SAR-1 for $15 more and in MUCH better shape then mine.

next week i plan on ordering one from AIM.

they haven't had the greatest reputation, so i understand it will need some work.

if you're like me, you will take it apart immediately and start correcting the CAI mistakes.

in other words, fixer up and you have a decent shooter you dont mind throwing around.

I just got one in from Aim last Friday.  I have not shot it yet, so I cannot speak to that.  The parkerized finish has some scratches, and is not the best, but not terrible either.  The wood has nice grain, but basically unfinished (which is fine, I plan to stain/poly it myself anyway).  No cant whatsoever to the gas block or front site.  The trigger snaps clean.  All in all I'm happy with it, there's no better buy out there in my opinion.  Of course, take that with a grain of salt because I may change my mind after I shoot it, but if it doesn't malfunction I will be happy.  It came with a target showing a 5shot group.  I don't know what yardage/meters it was shot at, but 3 of the holes were touching, and 2 were reeeal close, I'd say you could cover them all with a 50 cent piece.

The accessories did suck I have to say.  The bayonet was fair, but the leather frog has a tear and is more or less unusable.  The cheap cloth ammo pack looks like a rat has chewed part of the corner off, and the leather sling, while it looks like it's never been used, it also looks like it has been sitting around for 15 years in a damp storage shed.  I won't be using it.  The tube cleaning kit looks new and fits in the buttstock with ease.

It came with 2 30rd mags.  The mags fit the magwell good, with only a very very slight wobble if you shake the gun back and forth.  The mags look new or refinished, with no wear, dents, or anything of that nature.  The wood to metal fit isn't perfect, but not horrible. About what you'd expect in a cheap AK I suppose.

This weekend I'm going to pick up a case of ammo at the gunshow, and I will be shooting it after, so I'll be able to post a few pics and a better report in about a week.  So far, I'm pleased.

(got a BP-02 low mount weaver scope rail on the way from Tantal, should be here this week, so I can really test the accuracy or lack thereof and not rely on my eyes and open sights; we'll see if this gun can shoot like the test target says it can or not)

Can you please update me when you shoot it? I'd like to hear about it.

I believe the finish on the Romanians is a matte blue, NOT a phosphate/parkerized finish, and they do show rust fairly easily, so treat the rifle accordinigly.

are you talking about these:www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/AK_WASR_RIFLE_w__Folding_Stock__Bayonet_Lug__Break.html?

i got one las yr--aimsurplus is a great place to get stuff

the wasr is cheaply constructed, but not bad for the price imo--hi-cap mags fit well (polymers are kinda tight); the wood stock is short and shabby--i got the tapco folder; feeds well, shoots good

good truck/range gun

I order a SAR2 from them and paid the extra $ for hand picked.  Everything was straight.   They even deducted money for the mag not being able to be sent.
