| How much work would it be to put a underfolder on a AMD? Would it simply be drilling holes in the receiver and could I use the same trunion? I also have standard handguards so the forward pisol grip shouldnt be a problem. |
I have a AMD "pistol" that I built with a Tapco flat it already has the extra trunion holes welded over and ground flat and I have not cut the notch for the folding stock. I can get a underfolder trunion but was wondering if I could modify the existing AMD one Im guessing probably not. So say I installed a underfolder trunion what else would I need to do. Im just running out of ideas since I dont need another side folder and I find the pistol one kinda pointless. |

putting the underfolder on an AMD is no more work than any other ak type, as you are dealing with "generic" ak receivers. the underfolder uses a totally different trunnion, and internal parts to make the folder work. There is also a large center support for the trunnion that requires a large hole drilled on each side of the receiver. It looks, and sounds difficult to do, but actually is easy. I used the trunnion as a marker, slipped it into place and rivited the top in place. it's hardened, so I used a drill to start the large holes, then used airpowered grinder to enlarge the hole to the trunnion size. The grinder didn't enlarge the trunnion holes. The hardest part was putting the bits and pieces of the folder togather the right way. OJF |
| OJF seems to have it dialed in. I have a underfolder project that I'm slowly getting parts collected for and the method that he just explained is the way that I was planning on cutting the rear of my reciever. Just be sure to take your time and go slow, also, make sure that everything is fitting as it should befor you start DRILLING. I think the biggest problem that you will have is getting your hands on a rear trunion for that project. |
