| I am a newbie and am considering an AK? What's the consensus on a good model/mfg? Romanian, Bulgarian, Russian, Chinese???? I don't want to break the bank though. |

I've got a Bulgarian and Romanian. Both work everytime I shoot, but the Romanian was around $299, and the Bulgarian $550. The Bulgarian is a better build quality. The Romanian was pretty crappy build quality, but shoots everytime I pull the trigger, and is accurate enough. I recommended a Romanian to a friend as well, and he's very happy with it. Just alot of milling marks and nicks, and sometimes the front sight is a bit canted on them, but they always work just fine. The WASR-10's can sometimes have problems, at least from what I've read here. As they were formerly 10 round, narrow magazine guns, that have had the mag well milled out to accept standard 30 round AK mags. Problems have occassionally arisen when the person doing the conversion did a sloppy job, or did not install a bullet guide in the gun, which is needed to feed 30 round mags properly. |
