+1 on the gun scrubber, you can pick it up at walmart. seems to work better for me then some of the "auto cleaners" some here will recommend. for the wood, take it out and stick it in the stove on the lowest setting, leaving hte door open. it will bleed the cosmo out, just keep wiping it off once in a while until it stops. |
| I've used kerosene, but the cheap "cancer in a can" brake cleaner at wally world worked pretty well too. I like to put the gun out in the sun for a few hours beforehand, loosens the stuff up some. Pull the wood off before you do either though, it will mess with wood stain. +1 on the oven method of getting it off wood, and be persistent. My Yugo 59/66 was weeping the stuff forever. |

Ark is right. Hot soapy water does wonders. Thats what I would have done if I was brave enough. Ah, yes officer I was just cleaning my rifle! I just put the gun in a long tub. Boiled a ton of water and thats it. Once you got most of it off you use the gunscrubber and youre done. But like sand and car glass you going to get that cosmo for years. |
