What distance should I set the range at to get the best use out of it. Should I set it at 50m and then make adjustments for 100 if I want to shoot farther? I finally was able to get it sighted in at 25m so I know the scope is working, but I am not sure what the standard distance is. |

I would like to know this as well. My AR is sighted in at 50 yards (using the IBZ method) to get the flattest trajectory from 0 - 200 yards. IIRC, the bullet never goes above or below 2" the POA. I think that this was developed with a couple factors in mind: the height of the AR's irons above the bore and the speed and weight of the bullet. With that in mind, does anyone know the height above the bore for an AK's irons? If so, could someone inform me of the best distance to sight in at to give one the flattest trajectory possible to an AK-47 or AK-74? Thanks! |

Which dot/gun combo? It'll vary based on how fat the dot is (target above, covered by, or under the dot at varied ranges) and how much the bullet is already coming up just to meet the line of sight from the bbl to the optic. One of the reasons I like the dot over chevron reticle choice in the Kobra; one setting is good for many distances. |

How big is the dot? I don't know. It is the PKASV. It has a black circle and a black dot in the middle, and if you turn it on the dot will turn red. It has an adjustment wheel, but all the instructions are in russian, then I played around with it and messed up the settings, and at this point I have the dial set at zero and it is dead on at about 25 meters. The dial goes all the way to 29. No chevron at the bottom. I am not sure if I need to have the dial somewhere in the middle of 0-29 so I can adjust up or down for elevation - my windage is fine. I have it mounted on a milled Arsenal SLR95mb. |

I have a cheap BSA red dot for my SAR-1 on one of the Belarus side mount low rise brackets. I first sighted in at 25 meters and then moved out to 50 yards. Once I did that, I was 2-3 inches high at 100 yards. That's where I left it. I also use the Santose IBZ method on my AR's and so I did a similar thing with the red dot. The irons on the SAR-1 are sighted in at 25 meters. I figured this was better since the trajectory is not as flat on the 7.62. My SAR-2 irons are sighted at 50 yards using the IBZ methodology. AK irons are approximately 2 inches above the bore |
That's just it. You need to find a 7.62x39 bullet trajectory and pinpoint a range to sight in that allows the smallest deviance from the POA. |

Mine are at 100. Most of my dot use is for plate shoots at 70-80yds, your model dot is about 4moa or about twice the Kobras, and you can range with the outer circle the same way I range between the dot and chevron below. Toss out the theory, get the windage right, set some bowling pins at varied distances, and shoot away. The answer to your preferences will just happen
