I'm sorry, and this is probably the 967th time this question has been asked. I have a Bakelite Romanian pistol grip I ordered from K-Var. I have a U.S. Made Slant Break from Global trades. To put on the pistol grip, I will need to replace magazine floor plates and followers. I do know that both the follower and floor plate will count as two parts. So my question is will the slant break be able to be put on aswell as the Romanian pistol grip, and how will it affect my parts count? I will be 7 US Parts, Trigger, Hammer, Disconnector, Gas Piston, Follower, Floorplate, and U.S. Made Slant Break. Will I be legal? Obviously I'm not counting the US Made Pistol Grip, as it would be replaced by the Romanian. |
You are probably right, but I wouldn't want to be the guy who they made an example of, and oneday they will decide to make an example out of someone. As far as adding the US brake, that is kosher, adding the floor plate and follower will also more than make up for the grip, just make sure you remember which mags have the US parts. |
Last year a local was pulled over for speeding on his way to a plate shoot. Officer (of many years and not a rookie as it turned out) saw gun cases in the back of his truck, checked them out, put him in cuffs for 'machine guns'. Other officers were called into the scene on the roadside, even from other depts sharing the interstate. They said that they had the same ARs and AKs, which were fully legal. First officer would not budge, kept him cuffed for about 7 hours, seized the guns. When the local started pushing back thru the system, the guns were 'lost' from the evidence room in order to cover the ass of the police. Simply a good thing that there was NOTHING wrong with his guns. US parts are cheap and easy, even if the need is usually dumb. |
Very true BUT.......... Many "U.S. Made" compliance parts out there are not considered US made according to the "other" govt. agency that regulates such things. The U.S. Dept of Commerce has very strict criteria on what can be sold and considered as "made in the USA" and many parts people are buying to be "legal" do not qualify. Am I saying people should ignore 922(R)? No. Just be aware that the law is unenforcable as written and many of you out there who are assuming you have a "compliant" gun really don't. |
| Great, thanks for the heads up on everything. So I'll actually be having 9 Imported parts, and I'll be +1(heh) in US parts, in other words, I'll have a spare part that I don't really need. Yeah, mag followers and floorplates are dirt cheap. I have 20 AK mags, so for 10 bucks I can replace each mag. No big deal. Many thanks! |
