I figured we could put a (hopefully) sticky together which could be sort of a more specific kind of AK FAQ. For instance:

The gas piston is supposed to wobble.

The buttstock is not supposed to be perfectly flush against the rear of the receiver.

There is no bolt hold open device on an AK.

Single stack conversions do not have dimples in the magazine well.

A milled receiver AK is about 2 lbs. heavier than a stamped receiver.

VEPRs use an RPK receiver - it is not the same as a milled receiver.

The .308 Saiga uses a "quasi-RPK" receiver.

The .308 VEPR magwell can be converted to take M-14 or Galil magazines, the .308 Saiga cannot be converted like this.

This is the start of the list, but you catch my drift.

Please add to this list! (And let me know if I'm wrong on any of these!)

Sounds good too me. Maybe put the Ballistic's for 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 is a standard load. If zeroed at 100 Yards, it will drop X amount at 200 & X amount at 300. Just trying to help. WarDawg

It would just end up in the AK ABCs forum, and nobody would read it.

Such a shame too, alot of good info there.

Probably true but we could link to the info as questions come up.  Better there (AK ABC's) than no where.

AK-47 bolt carrier stop is on the right side of the trunion, AKM is on the left side.
Firing Line Milled receivers have it on the left however (among many  other differeces).
Functionally no different really, but you wanted tribal trivia!

added: the switch to the left side was supposedly to help balance out the rifle's receoiling impulses.

It was there last week, but I had to go to Normandie to take a look around and didn't have a chance to look at the content.

I think it is a good idea myself.

I will just retitle it IGNORE. It will have 1,000 hits in a week.
