The lower handguard on my AK-74 has a lot of sideways movement. It is a K-Var polymer set. What can I do to tighten it up?

You may want to bend the sides in a little on the lower handguard retainer.

what kind of ak did you install this handguard on?

the bulgarian handguard relies on the bulgarian/russian type retainer to securely locate it.

if you installed it on a romanian rifle, you can use your old wood handguard's tension spring plate as a lock to help stabilize the lower handguard. hbarski has the details on this method, as he first came up with the idea.

It is a Bulgarian kit on a Firing Line milled receiver.

I crumpled a little aluminum foil and placed it between the barrel and forearm. This makes a nice tight , cheap fit.

I have found that after your handguards catch on fire.......they do not fit tightly.

you're supposed to throw it in the mud puddle BEFORE the flames come out of the vent slots!!!

My problem is the upper hand guard.  It is loose and rattles.  It doesn't affect the operation of the rifle, but it is a little annoying sometimes.  It's a K-VAR polymer upper hand guard mounted on a SAR-2.  Any idea on how to tighten it up?
