Ok, lets keep the ball rolling. The folder that I want for my SAR-2 (for after the ban of course) is available from KVAR for $100. Its from a Bulgarian parts kit, which I think has a basically idential receiver to the Romanians, but I'm not sure. www.k-var.com/product.asp?0=270&1=271&3=69  Can I get this one to work? |
As far as I can tell, it looks like drilling holes in the side of the reciver and installing rivets to hold the block in place. That's not a problem. My problem is whether the rear tang on the Romanian receiver would get in the way and have to be removed-- at that stage we are talking about a very ugly solution indeed. Can you elaborate for me? |
Yeah, your entire rear 'tang' (rear trunion) would need to be removed and replaced with the trunion in the pic for that Bulgie side-folder to fit. That would involve grinding, riveting, etc...not for the faint of heart. take care, Tec |
| Ugh... I know its only a $300 gun, but I don't want to modify it that much. I've already refinished mine, and it reminds me of all those sporterized 1903s and Mausers that they did in the 50s and 60s because hey, they were only $30 guns so who cares right? I think I'll leave the tang alone and just go with the Romanian type. Too bad they are so ugly. |
