So what's the deal? I hear Randy is out of business. Anyone know the story?

I wish i knew. He has done some good work and he has always been pleasant to work with. I shipped him a kit and he emailed me saying he was no longer doing this work.

I want to know the status of my build???? And my money?

However, he has been reliable in the past so I hope things will get cleared up soon.

He probably got sick of the people. I know I couldnt stand having people call and email daily about things. I saw some other guy trash him back and forth about a month ago, so It probably isnt worth it to him anymore. Some people just cant be satisfied no matter what.

I have had an experience with Randy.

I had him build my Fal for me.  Delivered the complete kit.  At that time he said it would take 4-6 weeks. No problems from me.

Well, 5 months later I finally get to take posession.  In addition, the hinge pin was "lost" and I had to buy a replacement.

I would caution anyone who sends Randy a kit to build.

If anyone wants proof, let me know.  I save everything.

I dont know a thing about him or his work, but if he did lose something, he should have replaced it. I do that for ebay stuff I sell, if anyone is unhappy or dis-satisfied, You do whatever it is to make it right from free product to refunds. I have sent lots of free junk out and refunded money after I sent the product, granted its only ebay and 10-50 dollars here and there. But I feel better in knowing things are right then. It doesnt work to well on ebay, since you dont get many repeat buyers, but I find it a sound principal. If you dont meet your deadlines, start kncoking off price on it. Maybe you lose a little here and there, but you gain so much more. Imagine had he just sent back the money, I guarntee that would have went from a negative thread to a positive before it was even posted, that would have snowballed into more and more work. I need to start selling something I can apply that principal to in reality, (lots of places say customer satisfaction is NO#1, but few actually mean it) I could clean up then. Bad press is never good for a business.

Seems like he is becoming gooch jr. For those who dont want to read the posts on ak47.net someone he did a build for complained about damage done to it while in his care and asked for some sort of compensation so IA posted all his emails and his contact info on his web site. Now IA tells someone who had their build at his shop since June 03 that there was a break in in December and someone stole his mixed bulgy/russian kit and that he is SOL.

I've had good experience with him in the past. He emailed me earlier and said the kit would be returned. I have no reason to doubt him.

I hate to see another builder go away. Now I have to find someone reliable and good to assemble several of my customer's kits.

Anyone have any suggestions????

You can't go wrong with Chris from AK-USA.  WWW.AK-103.COM. He's done several builds for me and I couldn't be happier. He does OUTSTANDING work.

Looks like IA went the way of the gooch. He shut down his email and phone # and hasnt been responding to people about their builds. He butchered this krink.

I don't get it. He went from having great reviews and praise.  To having 3 guns stolen to this.  Looks like he owes 3 people $1500-2000.  I giess it might be time to call the TAG.

He has more then 3 people waiting on him.  The list seems to be growing hour by hour.

What is wrong with people?  Why do AK smiths seem to be flaky people?

That's a sad looking Krinkov......

It's apparent the "flake" AK smiths reside and do business on the other board.

Man, did you see the weld ?!?!?

Yikes!  That weld makes the Gorillas at Century look like master smiths.

Yes we should be truly grateful to have ORF & Inrange on our boards.

He had to of done that welding on purpose just to shit the customer.
There is no way a competent gunsmith could do work like that.

I really feel sorry for the guy that owns that krink.

I'll stick with Chris Butler.

Randy from Independence Arms did the gunsmith job in those pictures? Something is fishy? I have seen plenty of his work and every rifle was a work of art. He is known for being one of the best AK/HK/FAL gunsmiths in the country.I do know that GUNNUTZ has had it out for Randy for the last couple of years. Wasn't it over his refusal to sponcer them or something? I can't really remember now.

I have been a gunsnet member for a little over a year.  I read nothing but praise for his work until a few months ago.  A few negative stories started to pop up.  Pictures of the krink are the latest.

Randy has evaporated in the last few weeks.

Something went horribly wrong there.

That's the typical mode of operation on GunsNet.  Promote anyone who pays money, squash any negative reports until it finally gets out.  It seems we are at that point now.  Time for GunsNet to disavow any knowledge of their business relationship with Independence Arms.

Damn.  This stinks of SAI !!!

Wow...that's *the* ugliest weld I've ever seen...on anything!  I agree that you can't do that kinda work intentionally.  I've welded a few times, and my work looks better than that.  There must be more to the story on this krink..

take care,
Tec (Randy owes me some money, but won't return my emails)

Being serious here for a moment,  I never saw any relationship between gunsnet and Randy that was official.   I think he was told not to advertise on the forums at one time too.

I had one of my Ak74 Kit built on OOW and the rivit work was just like this.

He was slightly more expensive than the one I had built by Inrange, but workmanship was really good.

The AK74 shoots great with no problem.

Here's another pic, its the one next to Inrange AK 74 Wood, in black Poly.

According to an email that GNS received and posted over at the other site, Randy said he is out of business and has less that 10 customers rifles and will be returning them.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but your scope rail is mounted incorrectly. It should be parallel to the top of the receiver.
