I've been casually looking at AKs recently.

On here it seems people are paying 350+ for SAR1s.

Yet I gun shows I see tables full of AKs for 270-300.  Are these converted over WASRs and not SARs?  Should I be concerned about the difference?  Both are Romanian, right?  Both have stamped recievers?  What makes the SAR more desireable?

Many of them come with a WASR style stock, and an AK style stock as well (some already converted, some not).

Because the sar1 was hicap to start with. In a wasr it was milled or cut out and there could be mag problems.

We had a huge problem with a bunch of converted WASR rifles from SOG several months back.  They would not feed at all. I am very leery about these rifles.

Stupid question but...

is there a place on the gun where I can positively identify if it is a SAR or a WASR?

At gun shows, its let the buyer beware, so I want to know what to look for.

It should state the model on the receiver.  The SAR's have the mag well dimple.  WASRs don't have the dimple.
