While pretty,I often wonder how much heat these plastic handguards can take before they're a melted mass of gu. The AK is capable of setting its wood grips ablase (I have a burned out set). Anyone try for a meltdown? Or are these just for the "look good" shooter?

If you can install heat sheilding like the Bulgy sets, and the bottom rail does not have sharp edges that chew up your hand, it looks real good.

I'm calling him at the Shot Show right now.  It comes with a Manufacturers Lifetime Warranty...

The lip that fits into the hanguard retainer looks to be molded plastic rather then a metal insert.

I would think a lot of heat transfers through the retainer since it is in direct contact with the barrel.

It looks like an interesting piece of equipment.  But I am still waiting for the AK SIR.

That would hold me over nicely till the swiss SIR arrives, of course if HK releases that M4 upper to civvy's, I'm dumping all my AK's.
They'll just be relics of a bygone era then....

Don't count on it.  I have an AR right now and even though it shoots like a dream, I still keep coming back to my SAR-1 for some no-holds-barred bumping fun.

If you decide to rid yourself of your AKs, you will still end up re-purchasing one later.  Trust me.

ha..I built a dream m4...added all the toys..  I will take my krink any day of the week over that AR.. and mind you the AR cost me over twice what I have into a Krink..  Just something about AK's...I just love them 7.62 and 5.45..

You know it funny, that with AR type rifles, everyone keeps trying to improve it????

WTF the AK never needs improve, It's perfect...

Spade's interested.

I've been looking at turning my AK into a CQB type weapon (since it's smaller than my AR-180B). Since the bullpups apparently died, this might be cool. Long as it's not too high priced.

Interesting, but I prefer the classic, untouched look of the AK.  Now the AR on the other hand...

If he does stock it, do it soon!  I'd buy one.  Whos the manufacturer?

I didn't get a chance to talk to him before he left the show.  I know he mentioned something about an Israeli company.

Troy got one of them for research and development when he gets back.  Said he was going to take it to the range to see how it holds up.  He did tell me this is for tactical use, and not your everyday "machinegun" at the range.  Said it was made out of Delrin.

He should be back sometime today, but works tonight.  He will probably check in at the PD and get online.

Neat idea for lighting, and looks well made.  I don't think it's going to be solid enough to mount a scope/laser though.

I have an all-plastic choate handguard on my MAK, and it's never had a sign of melting.  Still, if they can put a metal heat-shield in it, that would be better.

take care,
Tec

Israel, then it is not a US part?  I need my handguards to be American made so the BATFE doesn't shoot my kid and run over my dog.

3/4 of the way thru the vid, a guy melts the handgaurds right off his AK...

Unless I'm mistaken those were the some of the first cheap, recycled pop bottle plastic USA handguards.  No heat sheilds, low grade plastic, etc.

Guys you can melt almost any if you try hard enough. I have even seen the wood ones catch fire. This will be great for a tactial rifle. I seriously doubt a L.E.O. will  ever melt one of these off. I'm going to test this one before I stock any. They should be around 50.00 shipped?

Thanks, Troy

www.gunaccessories.com/AK47/index.asp Gun Accessories sells them but folks on the other AK board are claiming they're paying $44 and not $69.95 as advertised.

I picked one up at the SHOT Show for $33 w/o packaging.  Sure it's not as cool as the metal ones; but, you can't beat the price.  It's very stiff & looks like it might be fiber reinforced.  Fits a CURII perfectly.  Wouldn't go on a Bulgarian milled .223 or 7.62x39 receiver.  It would have to be trimmed in the front to fit a Hungarian SA-85M.

Well thanks Hank. I'm reminded how this is America, where free entreprise prevails. So I won't consider the post as a hijack on IN RANGE's offerring of this new product.

My apologies to In-Range (Troy) or anyone else potentially offended by my post...BUT.. (1) this post was started nearly a week ago by krinkfreak; (2) someone else has already posted a link where it is being sold (i.e., gunaccessories.com; (3) I wanted one sooner rather than later and asked my friend if he could get one for me and he said sure.. so I figured... alright, I'll let the folks here know where else they could get one since so far there was only one known source from where to purchase the handgaurd at this time. Call me impatient perhaps and shame on me for not waiting for range melt/not melt results... I just want it 'cause it looks "neat" and to improve the eronomics of the rifle (i.e. allow for a modern forward grip) for plinking around at the range.

Since I am new around here, my post count is barely 100 (shame I wasted my milestone 100 post on this) and I am not a paying member (yet), I'll just assume not risk any further  offense and remove the post from the exchange, if that is what the rest of you think would be appropriate. Thanks.

Not to be a dick or anything but I dont care if they do melt with continued bumpfiring.  My SEAK is going to be my commie AR and its not complete without at least 2 lights, a laser and a bipod or two.  If someones selling them cheaper I'd like to get in on it since the economy isnt giving me bonus points for keeping it in the family.  As long as I'm not buying it from the taliban I'll take any price cut I can.

Note-- Just to clarify, it is not being offered for less $$, just sooner...is my impression.

Also, I believe someone asked about the manufacturer-- here is the link: www.tdi-arms.com/_Articles/Article.asp?CategoryID=75&ArticleID=70
