Which do you prefer Warsaw Pact or NATO length and why? |
|
Warsaw. If you keep a proper cheek weld with the nose touching the rear corner of the dust cover, it is much easier with the shorter stock, especially with heavy clothing and web gear. I am 5'11' and the so called nato length stock is too long to obtain a proper cheek weld. A proper cheek weld means much quicker follow up shots. |

I personally find the regular length a little uncomfortable at times due to my height (6'1"). If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that the reason the regular stock is so short is because the average height of a man in Russia is shorter than in the states. Also, the average soldier in Russia tends to wear more clothing and jackets for a larger part of the year than US soldiers. Hence, with all that clothing on, a shorter buttstock would be needed. I have heard nothing but good things about the NATO length stocks (1.25" longer). I plan on getting an OD Green NATO set from KVAR in a few weeks. When I get it I will write a small review comparing the two. |
I agree, when I DO wear winter clothing here in Texas, I like the standard stock. But sometimes during the summer when I wear only a t-shirt, the short stock gets uncomfortable. |
