Question on brown stuff coming from around the gas block on my SA M7.  Could it be rust??

I have an SA M7 and noticed some brown / slightly reddish looking stuff coming out onto the barrel from under the gas block.  I let some oil soak into the area...and after heating up the barrel with a few rounds down range the stuff came out in greater quantities.  Could the rifle be rusting under the gas block or what?

Anyone have a clue?
Thanks,

yeah...it's either rust or the park/black oxide/blueing process wasn't 'killed' in the wash tank.

no big deal. just keep it flooded with kroil oil, then just gun oil.

remember, many firearms are assembed and then finished. this mean the finish process leaves a lot of bare steel where parts are mated together.

Or my Bulgy Makarov had similar stuff on much of it as grease for shipping.
