I want some opinions about this: Why is it that in many pics of foreign soldiers with AK's, many of the AK's don't have muzzle breaks, slanted or otherwise?

Bottom line maybe?
To keep the cost of the rifles down, ease of manufacture, and one less maintenance item.

no muzzle device was issued untill the advent of the akm in 1959. prior to that only a muzzle nut/thread protector was used.

due to the ineffectiveness of the slant comp, some military purchasers deleted it from their contract specifications.
