I stumbled upon this web site completely by accident. It is in Japanese, but it has some very good close-ups of what appears to be a real Russian AK-103. I some of you might like to take a look at the finish and markings.  It would actually seem to legitimize the powder-coating that is used by the ak-103.com people.

please note the reinforcing plate that is spot welded to the bottom of the receiver...it is sandwiched in between the receiver and the top of the pistol grip.

this plate was introduced on the russian akms (side folder) and continues on the ak-74 series.

i have been contacted about making these plates. if there is enough interest, i may go ahead and make some.

note, also, the assymetrical front trunnion rivet pattern.

In the Japanese AK book, The Russian AKMS 7.62 X 39mm underfolder also has the same plate under the pistol grip.

ekie tells me they are a reinforcing plate used on the sidefolders...much in the same fashion a convertible automobile has reinforced frame rails...to reduce flexation and add strength to the rear of the receiver.
