Alright, I broke down and bought an RSA trigger group for my SAR1. Installed it yesterday evening, was a pretty easy job. Found the shepard's hook to be the easiest to stick back in, the hammer with the hammer spring took me the longest to get inside and aligned with the pin holes. Dry fired it a couple times and the trigger was preset to a short single stage, weird since the documentation said it was set to two stage. So I get out the wrench and set it up for two stage, now it's the way I like it. Reassemble the AK and pull back the action and slowly let it move forward. On the way back the bolt gets stuck on the hammer. It's nothing major, if I just snap back the action it goes forward fine or if I do it slowly and it gets stuck, give it a little push and it moves forward. It seems like it's just rubbing against the hammer slighty. Just wanted to know if this is fine or will cause the action to jam during firing. Also was wondering how I should fine tune the trigger for a nice two stage pull. Thanks, Serge |

You are right it is nothing major. Some SAR1's and other Romanian receivers have the trigger hole a few thousandths off in height. Not a major deal as the parts will mate in very fast. Our Hammer has a little better steel and has a very durable surface so chances are the bolt will mate to the hammer instead of the hammer mating to the bolt. If this does smooth out let me know and I will mill you a shorter hammer to keep it from overcocking. Ken Roberts President RSA |

i can show you factory, pre-ban hungarians and chi-coms that do the same thing. the "ride-height" of the bulgarian carrier seems to be the lowest (in relation to the usa fire control parts in general) of all the ak's i've wrenched on. upper or lower guard? the lower guard may need the retainer plate moved rearward and tightened down. both piethes of wood can be built up with spar varnish and the front of the receiver can be carefully squeezed closed a few thou. i suspect your wood is just drying out and shrinking...perfectly normal. |

Thanks a lot for the replies and advice guys. Both of you are trully top notch. I'll contact you if there's still a problem, Ken. You provide the best customer support and service I have ever seen in my life. You can bet I will purchase again from you, not only because you have the best products but also because you're a great guy. Campybob, it's the lower handguard and I pushed the retainer plate all the way down before clamping, still a little loose. I'll try what you suggested with the varnish. Thanks again, Serge |
