I have come to accept the fact that I must submit to the darkside. Resistance is futile (and my hospital chaplain shooting buddy has also fallen from grace..they taught me in residency to never go down alone)

My stock SAR1 will soon be a thing of the past:

Polymer stock set should be here Friday.

AK-74 brake with threaded adapter same arrival date. (thanks RS39)

I just finished modifying the disconector to remove "the slap."  I just HAD to polish the rest of the shitty century trigger (I know you told me not to Campy, but I was still fighting the power of the darkside, then.)  Trigger is MUCH nicer - will see if it lasts.  Redstar will probably end up with some of my funds if it doesn't.

I'll probably order the Kobra red dot this week as well.

All these new expenditures to 'improve' my VW beetle of assault rifles has me wondering..

Is it really worth spending the money on a rifle that shoots 3-4 inch groups at 100 yards?

Would I have been better off to just pony up and buy an AK as built by global/AK-USA/inrange?

Would they (rifles built by global/AK-USA/inrange) be more accurate?  Reliability doesn't seem to be much of an issue - its an AK!  So what/how much "more" do you get?

I can weld, parkerize and apply polymer finishes; however, I have done enough 'home gunsmithing' to have f**ked up a few guns to know my limitations. A complete build would only serve to teach the kids more words they shouldn't but will repeat in front of their mother.

Thanks for your thoughts

PS. Can someone post a list of ak manufacture/gunsmith links/web sites?  It would help us new to the ranks of the Fallen.
