I just received four "excellent condition" East German mags from ammunitionstore.com.  I noticed the finish on these was a little different than on the ones I ordered somewhere else a year ago, but really didn't think much of it at first.  However, I then decided to put a light coat of oil on the mags as I do with all steel mags before storing them.  The black paint then became sticky and caking on my hands.  I then took mineral spirits and cleaned the mags.  Once the cheap spray paint came off I realized they were extremely warn mags which someone was attempting to pass off as new.  They also have weak springs. I contacted the vendor and he assured me he was not the culprit and that I could trade these for new magazines.  Has anyone had this happen to them and how common is it?

I have bought from the ammunition store many times, and have found them to be honest.

As far as the mags....that is the first I have ever heard of anyhting like that. Was the surface of the mags smooth or rough? sort of pebble textured?

Please keep us posted!

BTW EG mags should be blued, with a ridge running along the back.

They were coated with cheap, flat black spray paint.  Once that was stripped off you could see the bluing which was extremely warn.  I have ordered ammo from them in the past without any problems, but this order concerns me.  The East German mags I ordered in the past are a little different along the back of the top of the magazine which is causing me to wonder if they are even German.  It is possible they were mislead by the distributor, but I feel they should investigate their stock and definitely not advertise these as "excellent condition."

bummer. call them on monday and ask them for an rma number or credit. a magazine in "excellent" condition is NOT a well worn, spray painted mag.

i find this odd, myself, as a ammostore generally is very honest in their description of merchandise.

I had a similar experience with them (UZI mags advertised as IMI but were not), and received a full credit to my charge card.  They even sent a UPS pick-up ticket and label, so it didn't end up costing me a penny.

i inspected a tub of mags that the ammunitionstore brought to the gunshow. they appeared to be romanian mags and were well worn (and NOT repainted). the black oxide finish was worn off from use and rough storage/handling.

i suspect that they painted up a batch in order to get a buck or two more out of them.

i would have rated the mags i saw as "range beaters" and they were priced accordingly.
